TenShadows
I recently reinstalled Oblivion and thought I'd put up Keychain for this one, since I've always had a bit of trouble with keys. But recently my game began crashing and freezing far more often than usual, and I traced the culprit to that mod. Since it was never that big of a deal, I removed it, and so far the game has worked fine since... well, except for this one weird thing. See, another mod I had was Eat and Sleep, by kuertee. It's supposed to give me my hunger and exhaustion situation whenever I open the menu - but ever since ditching Keychain, all it says is "$message1". I have no idea what causes this: the only way I can see these two mods having anything to do with each other at all is some inventory stuff (particularly since Keychain caused the game to freeze whenever I went there), and even that is a pretty tenous connection. Re-establishing mod order through BOSS didn't do anything. Anyway, I got rid of Eat and Sleep as well, since it was never a critical mod either and those messages were beginning to weird me out. Maybe I'll put it back up at some point, see if the problem continues. Figured out I'd make a thread here anyway, though - just to let the rest of you know, see if this sort of a thing happens often, and whether I could learn what would be the cause of it. 45AARP
I'm not familiar with Eat and Sleep, but I would try completely uninstalling the mod and all the files (such as .ini files) with it, and reinstalling it and see if that does any sort of change. Also try making a new character and see if the problem happens on that as well. If it doesn't I'd try removing the Eat and Sleep mod (but make sure you don't have any leftover stat changes or effects affecting your character from it), then load your game and make a save on a new save slot (don't overwrite any of your old saves, this is known to cause problems). Close the game and reinstall the mod and then open up Oblivion again and see if you still have the problem after all that. If worse comes to worse I personally have been using "Basic Primary Needs" - http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/37088/? for years with no problems ever. It might seem a little overwhelming if you start customizing it but it's rather intuitive once you see how it works and can be customized to just about whatever you'd like. I personally like changing the default starvation threshold of how much health/mana/fatigue you lose at full starvation to 100% (I believe the default is 25% or 50%) so that I can clearly see how much and when I need to eat/drink and disable the option that slowly increases the hunger rate the longer you go without eating just so that I don't have to stuff my face to be full after not eating for awhile. It's all up to however you'd like to play it though and would recommend it if you cannot get Eat and Sleep to work correctly for some reason after trying a clean save. EDIT: One other thing that came to mind is if you use any UI mod such as Darn UI or something that alters the text/font/etc that could be a cause for that, so I would double check and reinstall any of those sort of mods if you use them as well.
