gooch503
hay all, im getting a gaming laptop next month (Alienware M15X) with the sole intent on modding RPG games, i was wondering if anyone could direct me to a good "beginers guide" or "how to" video. also, a list of good and easy mods to get me started would be very usefull. the only expirience i have with modding is editing game saves for the xbox so all this will be new to me. the games im getting are Oblivion & Fallout New Vegas thanks for all your help
Deleted1848331User
Hello, Mr. Gooch! (I've always wanted to say that... lol) Well, if you are getting Oblivion, I'd recommend the Game of the Year edition ($20 USD + tax). It comes with Shivering Isles, which makes it easier because if you end up wanting it (for mods or for the gameplay), it saves wasting like an hour downloading it from the site. Mods I recommend? Well, the necessary ones (in my opinion) are the Unofficial Oblivion Patch, along with the SI and official mod ones, and the Supplementals. Then Oblivion Mod Manager, to make everything easier to download. Since I think the original Oblivion menu is pretty bad, I'd also recommend DarkUId DarN. Remember that for the SI and official mods patches, you need to actually have them. (For SI, you need SI [shivering Isles], and for the official ones, you need to have Knights of the Nine, Vile Lair, Wizard's Tower, Fighter's Stronghold, Spell Tomes, Horse Armor, Mehrunes' Razor, the Orrery, and Thieves' Den. [i think I got them all...] But if you know what goes where, [if you just want the KotN patch, then dig around in the meshes and textures folder (unless they come in their own section now, I haven't downloaded the supplementals in a long time, since I have it already) and find the folders with 'nd' in front. Then, look at the file structure, and place the folders in the place you got it (i.e. you got ndsomerandomthing, and its in meshes\armor, then you put it in that folder in your oblivion\data folder. If the meshes\armor folder isn't there, simply make it!] then you can just pull the folders out of the .rar/7z file and place it into your Data folder. Which reminds me, you may not know of a .rar opener, or 7z, or whatever. If that is the case, I'd recommend 7Zip, because WinRar isn't free, and gives you 45 days. (Although it doesn't time out ever, just an annoying message; in fact, I don't think I ever uninstalled it when I downloaded 7Zip lol) After all of those, I'd just look around and see what fits your tastes. Such as a werewolve mod if you like werewolves. Hope this wall of text helps :P Edited March 22, 2011 by Guest
