TenShadows
It's the usual issue, one that it would seem will always plague us, no matter what we do: mine usually starts to show up after about a week of playing, this one not being an exception. But this one is a particularly devious case and I honestly do not know how to fix it, hence I turn to you for support. Here are the facts: I loaded the game from the end of the Serpent's Trail, defeated a bunch of ogres, acquired the Circlet of Omnipotence (which I've never done before), then saved the game into a fresh slot, deleting the old one, and quit. When I tried to start again later, it crashed on loading screen. I use neither quick- nor autosaves, for the obvious reason. In fact, currently this completely nonfunctional save file is the only file available. I have neither installed mods, nor uninstalled any, in a while. Usually either one of the above would be the problem, but I don't see how they could be, since they don't seem to apply at all in this case. For the same reason, I have no idea how to fix it either: the hindsight of learning to use a backup save file will not help me today. The only thing I can think of at all is the Circlet of Omnipotence, but how the hell could picking up a simple ring, one that's in the core game, instantly ruin my entire file? discovery1
you could try deleting your ini file from documents/games/oblivion. The game will refresh it after a restart. this cured my identical problem.
