drakeelvin
I would like a companion that will never throw grenades such that they land within 2 feet of me, and also will never walk out directly in front of me FOR ANY REASON. Thanks. I'm getting really tired of shooting Bella and Veronica in the ass. For the first part its easy, just never give them explosives. For the second part, umm..., umm... I know! ALWAYS keep your back turned to your enemies :D Not really a serious post up there for what you are looking for SW90, though all of us can definitely relate to it :D ... Anyhow, @simplywayne90, back to the main point! This is an interesting thread but it isn't clear why you are collecting the ideas in the first place? Is this an offer to make custom companions for NV baed on requests? Or is it to start a larger companion project or something? Or just to share ideas? Well, here is an idea I had from quite awhile back for a companion: Name & Appearance:------------------------------Brotherhood Journeyman Knight Watkins (Yes, that golden haired girl from the Brotherhood, but notice she is promoted to Journeyman Knight now!) How Do You Meet Them?------------------------------------Meeting Watkins is as per the existing Brotherhood of Steel. Backstory--------------As you will recall, Watkins is an Apprentice in the Brotherhood and says she soon has to decide if she wants to join the Knights or the Scribes. After the player character has both (a) found the missing laser pistol, and (b) joined the BoS, there is essentially no more major BoS work available. First of all, Watkins approaches The Courier and tells you she has decided to become a Knight and has been promoted to Journeyman in the Brotherhood, and thanks you for helping her and the Brotherhood. She also says the Elder wants to see them both. It turns out that because of recent successes that Brotherhood procurement agents, scouts and The Courier have had in accomplishing Brotherhood goals in the wasteland, by blending in with the outside world, the Elder wants to train a select few Journeyman members in new strategy and tactics. New strategy involves training Brotherhood agents to move unobserved through the outside world, appear to most observers as natives, and to think and act creatively when far removed from the command structure. But also to remain loyal to the Brotherhoods core ideals. New tactics involve a change in weapons and armor training, and a change in approach so that when fulfilling a mission the new agents will move through the outside world keeping a low profile to avoid tipping outsiders as to the Brotherhood's presence. Watkins has volunteered for this new branch of the military, which suits her personality and thirst for adventure fine -- she is more a person of action than of contemplation. And the Elder now asks The Courier if he or she will act as a mentor and to take Watkins on a series of missions and train her so that the new methods may be evaluated, and so that Watkins will one day be able to pass on knowledge she gains to future Knights. The missions will be tailored to test fundamental ideas of scouting, intelligence gathering, infiltration, observation, and direct action, but they will be real missions and will attempt to fulfill actual present Brotherhood objectives. After each mission the team will report back to the Elder. Head Scribe Taggert has been steadfastly opposed to this new methodology. Furthermore, because of his infatuation with Watkins he will become insanely jealous of The Courier for being able to be with Watkins, regardless of The Couriers gender, and at some point during one of the missions he will attempt to sabotage it, but not directly though he will be behind it. Perhaps a defective component needed for the mission or even some fanatical paladin who is also opposed to this new thinking. There will be an opportunity for Watkins and The Courier to use independant thinking and effort to track down the betrayor and decide how to deal with him, be it instant retribution or turn him over to Brotherhood justice, with consequences for Watkins future outlook. Doctor Schuler would be a good NPC to tie in to helping The Courier and Watkins identify the culprit. Also, it must be noted that Watkins is young and full of energy and she will be a handful. At various times and places she will want to charge in and take the initiative and so part of The Courier's challenge will be to reign her in, to avoid blowing their cover and failing a mission. It will be hard to explain to a free spirit like Watkins that this "Spy Stuff" is very exciting, anything could happen at any time, so it only appears boring, and their will be plenty of genuine excitement as well. If all missions succeed, Watkins can become a permanent companion of The Courier. As a secondary adventure, if Watkins stays with The Courier, she may ask the player to take her to Helios One to find the place that her mother and father died and try to track down their place of buriel, to pay her respects. She says its a perfect test for the new tactics. That could be a fairly decent quest in itself. Well thats my basic idea. simplywayne90
Anyhow, @simplywayne90, back to the main point! This is an interesting thread but it isn't clear why you are collecting the ideas in the first place? Is this an offer to make custom companions for NV baed on requests? Or is it to start a larger companion project or something? Or just to share ideas? It's simply to share interesting ideas, and perhaps if a modder feels so obligated then yes, perhaps one or two of the ideas will bear fruit as in-game companions, but for now, It's simply story-telling. I've made a list of characters ideas for people to start from for future readers, I'll likely expand on them myself, but until then I felt they could help people get into this topic and discussion. As I already stated The Narcissistic but Cunning Prospector. A human from pre-war, who somehow became perfectly preserved and is now completely horrified of every single part of the wasteland, like we all would react from waking up to find the worlds destroyed, and honestly, I'd probably try to commit suicide if I met a deathclaw, simply to avoid the horrors it would inflict on me. An Escaped Slave Girl from the Legion, Surprisingly I see tons of mods to enslave people, but I don't recall any companion mods featuring an "ex-slave" of any race or species. A customized and quirky Brain-bot, using the "Brain-bot Prime" model from C.I.B's creature resource, A brain bot gets shot in the brain-pan (literally) and its memories from its previous human life begin to stir and bring out a stange and funny attitude. A Vault dweller "Fresh outta tha can'" (They're vault just now opened, so they know little about the wastes.) Now the tables have turned, before YOU were the gifted dweller teaching the savages your awesome ways of awesomeness, but now the courier has a turn. An apatheitic ghoul, (See "Ben" from the fan-video Nuka Break on youtube) A witty and smartaliec robotic dog (I'd say cyberdog but then people would try to use something like that abortion named Rex) As a tie-in with Fallout 3, why not meet a missionary for the "Church of Atom" who can only equipt plasma weapons, and spouts of strage and funny religious dogma about the shiny atoms. A tribal (Thinking along the lines of Sulik from Fallout 2, if you don't know him, look him up.......or Nanuk from Tactics was kinda funny too.) Enclave Scientist or "Observer" I'm thinking along the lines of Myron from Fallout 2, he'd be useful, but every time he talked you (and your other followers) would want to kill him and then drop a full-sized nuke on his remains. Dimensional Traveller, some poor smuck gets sucked out of one world and lands in Fallout somehow, Personally I was thinking about Minsc and his minature giant space hamster "Boo" from Baldurs Gate (If you don't know him, the gtfo.......or just look him up.) simplywayne90
:stare: Fine. Joseph Fritz Alliances: Legion Enemy: NCR, but not shoot on sight. Requirement: In Freeside you can find Fritz, he's looking for weak spots in Freesides walls and infrastructure for when Legion plans to roll through town, you can choose to help him out and then divert the NCR MP that is tailing him either by killing her or by deceiving her. After you've done this he will need to report back to Vulpes Inculta, later on you can meet him at The Fort and you can ask if he wishes to tag up with you now that his mission is done. History: Joseph Fritz is a citizen from a town controlled by Legion in New Mexico called Steel Town. He was born and raised in this town when it was conquered by Legion at the age of 5, the previously "wasteland justice" town now had law and order in it's extreme form and young Joseph looked up at the legionnaires in awe.During the time in this town his admiration for Legion grew stronger and stronger. 3 years prior to the events in New Vegas he caught attention by Legion as he advised them before hand of tribes and towns they were going to conquer. He had a talent for finding the weak spots of a guarded community, and he has helped Legion during these past 3 years, several Legionnaires has offered him a place within the Legion which he has respectfully thanked no to, he even received a necklace of human finger bones from one of the centurions as a thanks for his help in Legion's progress. As Legion started moving westward to bring their encore at the dam he was asked by Vulpes Inculta who had heard the news of this man to come with them to New Vegas and to use his talent on the city they were going to conquer. Personal Quest: Before he had time to ease down into the temporary life of Freeside a member of Omerta beat him up to near death and stole his necklace. He wants it back, he cannot imagine returning home and having lost a gift from a centurion, during his quest you have to chase this ghost from Omerta to Khans to Fiends to NCR to find him.During this quest you can deal with various people who know of his whereabout, depending on the dialogue taken it will influence Joseph to either be as brutal and cruel as a legionnaire is towards profligates or to be true to himself and his own personality and not have him mutate into something else. Perk: With Joseph in your party you get a +5% to critical chance. If you choose to have Joseph become brutal you get +35% critical damage and +70%sneak attack damage. If you choose to have Joseph stay true to himself you get +10% critical chance and +x1.0 in critical multiplier on all weapons. Better? <_<
simplywayne90
I made this companion toying around, so it's a WIP. Name: Soriah Build: Muscular Gender: Female Race: Hispanic/Super-Soldier Armor: Tomb Raider (Lara Croft) Weapon: Vindicator Minigun Backstory: Soriah is the only known successful subject of the FEV program. Her build is quite muscular, but shows no skin mutation. She is a bit aggressive but in full control of her mental faculties. Due to her large build she prefers to use miniguns. She is currently holed up in the abandoned shack near the Yangtze Memorial outside of Goodsprings. Haven't done any work on making quests and really hadn't even planned on making one. But I'm open to suggestions. I made this companion mainly because I was bored and even though I like big guns, I hate using them. More of a sniper/covert ops type of player I thought it would cool to have a companion who not only did the heavy lifting, but also looked the part. drakeelvin
There are lots of ex slaves with crippled limbs out there. A cool quest might be to help those who escaped get to a treatment clinic and arrange for them to get their knees fixed. One of my companion WIPs is a Navajo hunter named Kayenta from Northern Arizona who escaped when the Legion conquered his home village, actually he saw it taking place from high up in the mountains when he was returning from a hunting trip. Realizing there was nothing one person could do against hundreds of legion troops he moved west and swam across the Colorado to freedom, and renamed himself Kayenta after his home village. He wants to fight the legion so he was very happy to try to help the NCR; however, in recent years he has become disheartened with their efforts. He sees them more now as a bureaucracy headed by glory seekers, but he also fears what will happen to the Mojave if the NCR loses. He wants to fight the legion, but he is tired of waiting for NCR to do something, so he has become a mercenary which allows him to take direct action when he sees fit. simplywayne90
I'd like to present a Companion idea which is already WIP. I started modding this idea end of last year, it's currently in alpha state (i created and released several other mods in the meantime, but i'm still working on this one). The mod is based on the 1997 FPS game Blood, and the companion i'm talking about is Caleb, the main protagonist of this game (and it's addons and follow-ups). Most paragraphs in the description below are canon with the Blood games and addons (i took these paragraphs from blood.wiki-site.com), but i changed the story here and there to make it fit into the Fallout world. NameCaleb (last name unknown) AppearanceSome people who encountered Caleb describe him as a baldhead, while others state he has long hair. One thing is certain, he is strong and agile, as if possessing an inhuman power. He was often seen wearing classic Wild West clothing - a leather trench coat, boots, brown pants, white shirt and cowboy hat. He was wielding all kinds of weapons, including Explosives and Energy Weapons, but his favorite gun would be the Double-Barreled Sawed-Off Shotgun. He is very well known for his aggressive nature, sadistic tendencies, his gravelly voice, violent sarcastic humour and a tendency to spout out witty one-liners. Here are some images of Caleb which have been created throughout the years (fan art which i like)http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/4426/caleb.pnghttp://img153.imageshack.us/img153/6956/2bcaleb2b.jpghttp://www.lowbird.com/data/images/2010/12/8f156fca77808541d18f66073afdbd61.jpg In my WIP mod, he currently looks like this (this will most likely change, but since my GECK keeps crashing when editing faces, i'm stuck here atm)http://img577.imageshack.us/img577/3594/caleb3.jpg Backstory Early Years and the CabalCaleb is born in western Texas in 1847. By age seventeen, Caleb is well known as a merciless gun fighter with a hunger for bloodshed. Seven years later he comes across a burned-out homestead with a single occupant: Ophelia Price. She becomes Caleb's doorway to a dark cult called the Cabal, who worship the dark god Tchernobog. Caleb rises through the ranks to become one of the Chosen - the elite servants of Tchernobog. The Chosen (Caleb, Ophelia, Ishmael and Gabriel) serve the dark god well, preparing for the day he would throw open the doors of the dimensions and take over the Earth. Betrayal and RevengeSometime between 1871 and 1928, Tchernobog summons the four Chosen to the Hall of the Epiphany, Tchernobog's chamber. After killing and kidnapping the other Chosen, Tchernobog casts Caleb into a bottomless pit, telling him to "consider his power, in a hollow grave". In 1928, Caleb awakens in an open grave in a mausoleum. He fights his way through a quest to retrieve the other Chosen, eventually finding a large temple, which leads to the organic entry way to the Hall of the Epiphany. There, Tchernobog reveals to Caleb that he killed the other Chosen so Caleb would return, seeking vengeance, with the strength of each life he had taken. With this power, Tchernobog will throw open the doors and inherit the Earth. However, Caleb defeats him in battle. He unknowingly inherits Tchernobogs power, but he ignores it. Having heard of an ancient scroll guarded by the Cabal that is rightfully his, Caleb sets out in search of it. After heading to the Carpathian Mountains, Caleb finds where the scroll is held. After defeating the Lord of All Nightmares, Caleb takes the scroll for his own use. Caleb also learns that the Cabal are training a new rank of Chosen. Caleb is killing every last Cabal member on the way to the training ground where he finds several Chosen-in-training, who he destroys along with their stone beast that forms. 1928 to 2028After these events, little is known of Caleb's doings. He seems to be spending his time hanging out in dive bars, swilling cheap beer, smoking bad cigars, and starting brawls over women of dubious moral character. However, it is rumored that he is striving for leadership of the Cabal and to resurrect his beloved Ophelia, and the other Chosen. CabalCoBy the year 2028 the Cabal had reorganized themselves as CabalCo, a mega corporation that has their hands into everything from adult entertainment over home construction & real estate to weapon development. The Cabal regained their quest of world domination. Gideon, the Cabal leader, feels unsatisfied as long as Caleb, the Great Betrayer, still walks the Earth. Gideon attempts to destroy him with a powerful weapon, the Singularity Generator. The weapon fails, and instead causes the fabric of reality to unbind, already weakened due to the fact that Tchernobog, the maintainer of realities, is dead.At CabalCo Headquarters, Caleb confronts Gideon at CabalCo Headquarters, where a battle ensues. Gideon escapes through a portal to another reality and Caleb follows him through. Gideon fights Caleb in a final battle to the death. Caleb ends up the victor and eventually finds the lair of The Ancient One, the invader of our reality, who he defeats in combat. Finally acknowledging the power of Tchernobog in himself, Caleb has no other choice but to use his power to seal the rifts or all of reality will perish. After the Great WarIn the year 2077, after the bombs dropped, most witnesses of the events involving Caleb and CabalCo die, or are gone missing. The many CabalCo facalities all around the world are either locked up tight or burned to the ground. Nothing indicates the existance of the Cabal anymore. It is unknown what happened to Caleb after he sealed the rifts. [*]How do you meet them?, how do they fight?, and what factions they'd like, random ideas like Quests for them, Dialog, Banter, Companion Perk ideas, etc.In the year 2281, the Courier stops by a bar near Bonnie Springs, the Redrock Saloon, and learns that members of the Cabal have been sighted all around the Mojave. The Courier doesn't know what this is all about yet, but eventually a Ghoul appears, who has witnessed the events involving the Cabal before the Great War first hand. He tells the Courier about the Rise of The Cabal, and that there is only one way to stop the cult: The Courier must find Caleb! So much about the storyline so far. Here's some more "technical" info about Caleb as a companion:He is a master in wielding all kinds of weapons (Guns, Melee and Explosives are his tagged skills, but he's also good with Energy Weapons). He refuses to wear any other armor than his own Outfit. But since he's kind of undead, he will live again after being shot down (he is set to essential)Although he doesn't like taking orders, he will follow the players tactical instructions (Companion Wheel fully functionable, he will act exactly like a vanilla companion (hopefully))Characters and creatures he kills will often explode into a red, gut-ridden, eyeball-strewn paste. Fun! (he will have the Bloody Mess perk, although i might change my mind about that)I also thought about making him add a perk to the player called Bloody Revenge, which will make enemies bleed to death when the player hits them. Just an idea.I'd describe his character as somewhere between "Chaotic Neutral" and "Neutral Evil" (in D&D terms), he doesn't care which faction he is fighting for or against, as long as the Cabal are either destroyed or under his control. He will fight anyone who stands in the way. Which means he might turn against the Courier if he has to.... Thanks to this thread, i made up my mind about several aspects of my mod, especially about the background story and upcoming story events. That's great, cause i haven't thought much about that during the previous development (which primarily involved scripting and creating enemies and locations). Thanks Simplywayne90, +1 from me. Here is my thread about the mod: (SimplyWayne90 here, Sorry but the link is not allowned on Nexus since the forum its on doesn't care about copyright laws.)Theres a download link to the first playable alpha version, which already includes Caleb and many enemies. It doesn't have a quest yet. Anyway, have fun, and please leave feedback! Edited March 29, 2011 by simplywayne90

Rossum
Name Lien Appearance An intelligent female ghoul. A member of the Bright Brotherhood, she wears bright brotherhood robes, an old cowboy hat, and glasses. She wields a sawed-off shotgun which she loads with bean bag rounds though she also carries a cattle prod for melee combat. She also carries more lethal shotgun shells for 'just in case'. Backstory (Very important, don't post if your character is supposed to just sudden appear and help the courier) Is a member of the Bright Brotherhood who she treats as family. She doesn't speak about her past at first and the manner of her ghoulification is a touchy subject... she tends to ignore it and pretends like she was always a ghoul with no past beyond that. In reality, she had belonged to one of the tribes displaced by Mr. House when he took over New Vegas. Her family was driven out of Vegas and into the wasteland where they had to rely on and more often than not compete with the other displaced families for the food in the desert. Forced to live on the fringes, they set up camp near a body of irradiated water and drank from it. Her whole family slowly died of radiation poisoning except for her. After that, she was more shunned from human society before the Bright Brotherhood came by and brought her into the fold. Since then, she's learned that the tragic event that turned her into a ghoul was a good thing (in a way) as it allowed her a fresh start and the chance to live for centuries. With nothing to fall back on, Lien sees the Brotherhood as the only thing in her life and its teachings as the only truth. She might be able to come to terms with what happened if she is forced to confront it. How do you meet them?, how do they fight?, and what factions they'd like, etc. The player first finds her shortly after Nipton while she is traveling the roads and trying to pacify a feral ghoul trooper who had wandered out from camp searchlight. If the player has a weapon drawn she will plead for the courier to put it away while she pacifies it. After a while the feral ghoul trooper calms down and she directs it toward a fenced-in area where it won't harm anyone. She and other members of the Brotherhood have been traveling across the desert to pacify and gather up other ghouls both intelligent and feral, though she prefers to deal with feral ghouls as they don't ask hard questions. She learned about the attack on Camp Searchlight and has single-handedly been gathering up the feral ghouls to contain them... either in cages or by tying them up with ropes so they can't hurt anyone. She's tried enlisting the help of some NCR soldiers but they have orders to shoot feral ghouls on sight (even if they were once former comrades) and her attempts to get more Bright Brotherhood members to help have gone unanswered as the Nightkin disabled the radio communication equipment at the REPCONN facility. She asks the Courier for help in either containing the feral ghouls at Searchlight or to investigate whats happened to the other members of the Brotherhood. She prefers to deal less lethal damage to her enemies in the hopes that they will run away or be knocked out before she has to kill them, though she won't worry when attacking mutated animals or insects. She doesn't really like any of the major factions but does like the Followers of the Apocolypse and the mutants of Jacobstown due to their good nature and feelings toward people different than themselves. She mildly likes Freeside due to the Kings and others trying to make due with less, but she has nothing less than disgust for The Strip and Mr. House in particular. She won't start any fights in The Strip or any of its casinos but will be quite willing to help out the Courier should the need arise. And then random ideas like Quests for them, Dialog, Banter, Companion Perk ideas, etc.[/color] Companion Perks: Tender Ghoul Friend - When Lien is in your party, feral ghouls will no longer be hostile towards you unless you attack them first. Tender Ghoul Friend 2 - After safely containing many of the feral ghouls from Camp Searchlight, feral ghouls will not only stop attacking you but they will fight on your behalf as long as Lien is in your party. Bean Bag Loader - Lien can teach you how to craft 12 gauge Bean Bag rounds. The recipe is the same as a regular 12 guage round except replacing the lead with some easily harvestable stuff like Buffalo Gourd Seeds. When the Courier first enter the Strip with Lien, she will start a conversation and look a little nervrous (or "twitchy" as if she's trying not to say what she really feels) and mention about how the Three Families were before House took over and how they can't be trusted now. If the player mentions wanting to kill Benny or cause any other trouble at the Casinos then she'll be glad to help but will request some preparation to do it right. A quick "quest" starts where she'll help gather suitable body armor, explosives, holdout weapons, and other items to just go crazy on the Strip like its going out of style. If the action will be limited to just the casinos she'll just ask for armor and weapons but if the player plans to take out some Securitrons she'll mention how Vault 34 had a big armory in it and how its currently full of ghouls (who wouldn't hurt the player or herself). Thus, with a bit of preparation and legwork, Lien and the Courier can gather up lots of weaponry to start wipe out the Three Families on the strip, destroy the Securitron police force, and perhaps even kill Mr. House. The Courier can however ask her why she wants House and the families dead at which point she has to confront the memory of how her family and others were driven out by House and his robots. Talking her out of attacking the Strip is easy, getting her to confront the memory of her family being driven from their homes is hard, forgiving herself for surviving when they didn't is harder. Or one could do a high speech check to convince her that she was spared so that she could avenge her family... at which point she leaves the party and attacks the Strip by herself where she might die.
