devinpatterson
So I thought radioactivity is pretty deadly stuff. You bleed out your eyes, you bowls slough out of your body, neurological symptoms, its an extremely painful way to die. Not to mention even if your completely cleared of radiation the damage to your dna is already done. So I figured maybe it might be interesting to make a mod that showcases some of those effects. And as a little twist radiation exposure could result in mutations. The chance of mutations would be low (maybe 1% at 1-199, but could rise as high at 10% if your rads hit 800-999). Most of the mutations would be detrimental (various cancers, neurological damage etc that would have to be cured by a doctor). Some would be (relatively) neutral (grow a vestigial tail or weird skin condition). And a very few would be mixed (say you grow keratin all over your body, increasing DT but reducing Charisma) and a even smaller fraction would be beneficial mutations resulting in perks (advanced myosin proteins resulting in greater strength, or a split second pre-cog resulting in never being the victim of a sneak critical etc). It seems like there could be a zillion different mutations when you see what even small changes in DNA can do in the animal kingdom. I'll be severally limited by the game in what I could actually do, probably no vestigial arms, or third eyes :( but it still seems like there would be ample stuff to play around with, with plenty of room for creativity. I could probably even keep it somewhat realistic and still have fun with it. Worth pursuing?
dor0001
A super mutant mutation would be good too but the ones you said are good ideas.
TrinXaS
This was one of the many many things I wished to see while playing Fallout3 & New Vegas, it strikes me that Beths didn't consider those things, I was expecting at least a Ghoulification, but no there was nothing at all!Another thing, the post apocalyptic world is a harsh place to live in, sickness should be everywhere, in food (concidering that most of it have 200years), in water, in raw meat (I don't think that eating an uncooked mole rat meat could be a safe thing to do), and even in poeple (sleeping with the whores of casa madrid should be ...... dangerous), and radiations should be deadlier! Well I was thinking about a trick to implement mutation in the game so we can observe them when affecting our character. the trick is to add them as apparel (well not seen on the pip-boy of course) just like the pip-boy glove, when the Courier experiences a mutation! if some one is willing to make some mutated arms, legs, that would be ideal, we can also change the texture of the character but I don't know if this is possible but it will be cool to have such skin like this one, or this, and maybe this ..... well I just explored the FO3 nexus and found these:http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5293http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1659
devinpatterson
A super mutant mutation would be good too but the ones you said are good ideas. I was thinking more along the lines of changing traits, but not races. So you might have a myocellular advanced mitochondria mutation which would give you greater strength, or a pituitary tumor that results in gigantism that resulsts in greater size etc . I think those by themselves would be more interesting than just changing the player into a supermutant or ghoul. The advantages would be offset by the fact that most of the mutations would be harmful, that way you would have some game balance. For example odds are your more likely to get a damaged segment of DNA that hobbles your mitochondria resulting in a strength decrease. So you would need to talk to a doctor and go through a DNA rejuvenation treatment or some such. But every now and then a beneficial mutation would appear. Yeah definitely, disease is often rampant even a few days after a natural disaster (cholera etc), much less the mother of all disasters WWIII. And I couldn't agree more about radiation... TrinXaS; Hmmm that's interesting. I'm actually working on a western themed sunset sasprilla amusement park project and I'm using custom races to change the face (they have some skin missing with metal underneath). The arms and legs are no problem to use equipment, but for the face the custome race is the only way I'v found to do it, and it's not to practical for a player character. On the other hand anything other than the face is easy if they are added along with clothes. For instance the bounty hunter duster or lucas simms duster lets you re-texture the arms easy as pie. But the method you describe to use fake items with a different texture is new to me. It sounds like it has possibilities though..... http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1659 Cool glow, I like that one, I'm gonna ask him if I can use it. greenknightfury
Excellent idea! I'd like to see something along the line of the bioshock abilities granted by some mutations (though i don't know how you'd create the means to fire them off if they were the activated/attack type).
