DGenerateKane
Can anyone tell me what New Vegas files are required to use the GECK? I'd like to try my hand at modding but I won't always be using the same PC, and don't want to install the game on every one.
Crockeo
If I remember correctly, I tried this with the TES Construction Set and Oblivion, and it didn't work. So to my knowledge, the answer to your question is no, you cannot use the G.E.C.K. without Fallout: New Vegas. EDIT: Sorry, I didn't see the 'what files part', but as far as I know, you need New Vegas, even if you have most of the other files. This is probably wrong though, so I would suggest someone with a more definite answer. Edited March 27, 2011 by Crockeo
davidlallen
In order to view any existing room in geck, you need to have all the graphical files for the objects in that room available. So if you want to be able to view any room, you need to have all the graphical files for the whole game. In terms of disk space, this is like 95% of the total size of the game. So at best you could save 5% of disk space this way. You may as well just install the game. I am not a lawyer, and Steam may have a different view. I bought the game on disk (not download) and from my viewpoint, as long as I am sure nobody but me will play the game on these different computers, I feel justified in installing my one legal copy on multiple PCs. I suspect that Steam downloads may limit to a small number of PCs; so this may not help you.
