Can't update game

I was trying to update the game to version 1.2.0.416, so i could use OBSE, but every time i update it, there's a error popping up saying Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match i click ok, but it still finishes updating, at the end a notice pops up saying Thank you for your patience. Oblivion has been successfully upgraded

I go to OBSE, it says it's not patched, and i need to patch it, i check the game, not patched, I don't know how i could be missing the file, my disk was 100% clean when i installed it, can someone help me with this? i just hate how it keeps doing this

If you are using either vista or Win7 it could be UAC interfering. Best solution reinstall outside of the default location. I use C:\Games\Oblivion

If you have shivering isles, you MUST use ONLY the Shivering Isles patch. If you DO NOT have Shivering Isles, then you must use only the Oblivion patch. Make sure the language of the patch matches the language of your game - and there are 2 English patches for Oblivion, UK & US version. However for Shivering Isles only one english version for both. If you have installed the wrong patch, it cannot be undone. You must reinstall the entire game. Steam auto patches for you.

D2D and other legal download sites you need to go back to them for your patch. and OBSE will not work with them because of their extra copy protection. :pinch:

Here is a link to my complete uninstall/reinstall procedure located in the articles section of the Nexus

http://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=240

It allows you to preserve any saves and mods, or remove them completely - your choice.

There is also a problem updating some pirate versions. You get no help here with those. That's like stealing a car and then taking it to the dealer for warranty work. :turned:
