Newvegasrecon
Okay, so I just bought FNV for my new monster PC, all excited because I can now mod it unlike on the xbox. It runs fine, but when I tried to add a mod, I received an error message saying that the Launcher needed to close. Yes, I tried to manually install it the first time, used 7zip to extract the files into a new folder, then I put the files into the folder "F:Programfiles(x86)/Steam/Steamapps/Common/FalloutNewVegas/Data" like i was instructed. It then gave an error message from the launcher. I removed the files and reinstalled, tried a different file, same problem. So then I got FOMM. It already seemed to be a better plan. However, I don't know what the install directory is for steam, and would also like to know the other thing, I think it's the data directory? Please help. I'm not very savvy when it comes to computers, so I would highly appreciate advice that is very detailed and easy for a computer novice to understand. Other things: Running Windows 7, Don't have NVSE, Again, my FNV is through Steam, I have no clue what ArchiveInvalidation is, and..... I forgot the last part. All feedback is appreciated, and if your advice fixes the problem, you are the greatest person I've ever met.
drakeelvin
If Archive Invalidation is your error, in FOMM under the Tools menu toggle the Archive Invalidation setting. It should be on by default, to toggle it turn it off then turn it back on. Then try loading your game again. From your post it appears that your iinstall directory for Steam is F:Programfiles(x86)/Steam, and all the games that run under steam go in the Steamapps/Common subdirectory, thats why you see FalloutNewVegas under there. The other thing about FOMM that may be a bit confusing, if you download FOMM files to install that way, you can put those downloaded archives anywhere you want and FOMM will always install them to the Steam app. Me, I just put downloaded FOMM files in my Documents directory in a subfolder named FOMM (Windows Vista) and whenever I install a FOMM file I know where to find them all. FOMM does the rest by unpacking them to the game folder. If toggling does not work, it might help if you gave a link to the actual mod you are trying to install.
