Game is hopelessly ruined.

I was looking at mod stuff and how it tells you how to do w/e.

Well, I used TES construction kit, edited a esp and saved. The esp file vanished from my data folder, but shows up on the mod loadout before starting.

The thing is... is that editing this file has completely messed up character creation. I can no longer choose eyes or hairs for anything! I removed the esp files from the data folder, uninstalled the game, and reinstalled.

But that stupid edited esp file still shows up on the loadout! I even added a fresh one, but that doesn't show up, just the edited one.

Im totally screwed here! Is there anything that can be done!?

Are you using Windows Vista / Windows 7? That causes major problems if you want to make mods. The best solution is to reinstall Oblivion in a directory outside of "Program Files" which is the directory with intolerably tight security that views mods as malware. For example, you could install Oblivion in C:\Games\Oblivion. The CS will need to be reinstalled after Oblivion is in a new location. Certain other modding software programs also need to be reinstalled after reinstalling Oblivion. (Note that I said "reinstall" If you just "move" Oblivion, it will cause problems.)

If you are not eager to get into modding and just want to fix the problem and get back to playing, then you should search your computer for where your mods are located in Windows Explorer. (Don't use Oblivion software for this, because it is lying to you and giving you false information right now. If you can't find your mods by looking through directories, then actually use the search function which is like a search engine for the contents of your hard drive. Find all copies of the .esp and remove them. Remove all associated meshes, textures, sounds and other files. Make sure the mod did not edit your .ini. Start a new character, and there should now be absolutely no content from the mod you removed.

Oh...

I didn't notice or bother to check the compatibility files and found em and deleted em. What the heck, the computer put em back after I reinstalled..? Vista does a lot of annoying things, but I always figured around Vista's issues.

Phew, a few more days of that woulda given me heart disease.

My bad.
