Animation overhaul pack idea

So basically after seeing 100 different animation mods, all of which have problems with each other and many of which are inappropriate (ie: dmc stylish; youre some random prisoner who can barely kill a zombie, but you fight like dante)

Although this may need many permissions, (or maybe just an esp packaged with a batch? [moves the animations from each mod to the correct directories) It would be more a scripting project than any actual animating, although an experienced animator would be nice for this since a lot of the current animations are lacking in quality. My idea was that it would be kind of an all-in-one animation replacer that would have different animations based on the different skill levels:

Weapon idles replaced with (needs modification, a lot of them are pretty unnatural) sword-1. staff-2, bow-3[work for both genders, but could use tweaking to look nicer/natural]:

(dmc anims replace them at very high* blade/blunt level, etc)

standing idles replaced with:

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14280

-would depend on highest skill level at the moment (anything under 65 leaves you at no idle, and whichever hits 100 first is permanent), ie: hand to hand - idle 1; magic skills - 6; marksmen - 8; blade/blunt - 2; sneak - 3; personality(fem) - 4 *or any other better division method*

Female walking:

jump/dodge:

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20459

or

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8273

(havent tried either thoroughly)

very high level hand to hand:

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13051

very high acrobatics run (needs heavy modification, or a new animation all together):

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14434

medium high sneak:

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10662

I know there are various spell animations that could be based off high level magic stats like snap casting, floating self casting etc, but i cannot locate any at the moment.

*Very high being 80-90, or maybe make it uncapper compatible (no perm idle) and most animation changes being 100+

Part of the problem is that preferred animations are a very personal thing. Everyone is going to want a different mix of items from that list to make their own preferred setup, and that makes for installation complexity. Plus you are wanting to custom define levels within "sneak", for instance - that means a script has to run and check EVERY character in the game for EVERY level you define in animations and select the correct one, both for npc s and yourself, and change those on-the-fly as characters and yourself change their settings. I'm not saying it couldn't be done, but it is a LOT of work for someone, and that may be why no-one has done it yet

100s of mods? You list only a few, and say you cannot locate the others? Because there are not that many.

- Don't count idles. Mostly they are only good for poses, and don't even blend well with the following move/combat anims

- Don't count female walks. You can't use them for NPCs

- Don't count 1st person. Like this medium high sneak: http://www.tesnexus....le.php?id=10662

- Don't count Beni's animations (like DMC): he ALWAYS refuses his animations to be re-packaged. I once asked for permission and didn't even get response.

So what's left:

Seph's Hand2Hand. One of the few great animation mods, which is innovative, good and UNRESTRICTED. But only 6 of 38 original H2H animations are replaced

Or the Fingersnap animations. Nice, but not everyones taste. And again: not unrestricted. So I don't know.

Bethesda has about 250 3rd person animations (human). I doubt that there are even 40 good, free replacer files for a project like you propose. So is this worth the effort?

i lol'd ^^^

@Mark

And i figured it'd be a huge project, it was just an idea incase someone had something to work off of, and its not very difficult to swap animations you do like for ones you dont, so i dont think a complex install would be a problem.

I would enjoy a comprehensive animation project, and I believe that's what CCAO and others like it try to accomplish. The hard part is getting CCAO to install and run properly. :V

Personally, I've gathered numerous animation mods and mixed them up for personal taste. I don't enjoy the ridiculous, flashy, and campy attack animation you see in DMC Stylish, Seph's mods, and Deadly Reflex. But these can be useful still so long as you have a basic understanding of how the animation folders work. I start with the Animation Replacer Pack for its simple idle stances. A lot of these will be overwritten, but the ones that aren't are usually the staff idle, the bow idle, the hand to hand idle, and whatever casting animation you like (I didn't take any). For sneaking I usually take the backstab animation replacers (both 1st and 3rd person) from somewhere on the Nexus. There's also a nice sneak idle I found, but I can't recall where I found it (a Japanese site, I believe).

One handed idle and movement animations I take from DMC Stylish. I once liked KSTN's one handed mod, but his animation had the face looking down at an odd angle. I also couldn't stand having the animation on every NPC (yes, I realize it's easy to make animation for the player only, but that defeats the purpose of getting rid of most Vanilla animations for both NPC and player). DMC Stylish's one handed idles and running animation are good replacements that aren't ridiculous like the rest of the animations, and a vast improvement of vanilla Oblivion's animations where swords are swung around, held up high, while running at full speed with no effect on fatigue.

Then, for both one and two handed weapons, I replaced the normal attack animations with CCAO animations (the mod I can't yet figure out how to install, but the files are still there to be ripped). Power attacks I left alone as I've yet to find replacements that agree with me.

Two handed idles and movement were added from CCAO (for running forward, left, right and walk left and right), KSTN's Heavy Blade (for walk forward and backward), and Two Handed Idle C with block from the Weaponskill PowerAttack mod. Woman's Move Walk and Run mods would also find a place if not for the fact that I play both male and female characters in equal amounts. Natural Walk is usually enough for me in this case.

And that's my basic setup in a nutshell. It's unisex and looks good on either the player or any NPC. Only power attacks remain as they are in vanilla Oblivion. I like my combat very straightforward, realistic, deadly, and lacking any silliness whatsoever like spinning around three times before slashing, cutting people in half, or doing fruity cartwheels all over an Ayelid dungeon.
