Brighter nights?

I'm having a LOT of trouble seeing anything at all during my nighttime forays in Oblivion. I like realism, but I suspect my eyes are either bad or my computer settings are preventing me from seeing more than 2 feet, and a torch doesn't really help outside either. Indoors (dungeons, etc) it is fine, I think it is natural to carry a torch and not be able to see the floor. I have one mod that tweaks the AWS mod to include longer days and brighter nights but I haven't noticed enough of a difference to be useful. Can anyone point me to other choices that make it easier to see at night? I'd even take a "no-nights" mod if one has been made, although I don't want to go that far if I don't have to.

I'm not sure you have to go as far as disabling nights. Did you try tuning your brightess in the options menu? Or then again, your screen brightness? A low gama may result in what you experience.

Make sure that the room you are playing Oblivion in is bright enought.

Yeah I have my brightness on both monitor and game as high as I can go without it fading to washed out/bleached looking. I've thought it must be the "gamma balance" although I've never had to play with those settings before. Unfortunately I can't find any option to change it in-game or on my monitor's control panel. I'll keep looking.
