TheReverendTholomewPlague
I'm trying to connect my PC to LAN on a Speedtouch ST546 v6 Router with an Nividia nForce adapter (The one in green) and I can't change the network location or look at the network map (among other things). buddah
Are you using automatic network detection or are you manually setting up this network. Check your default gateway, you do not have it identified....won't work until you do. This usually sets to 255..255.255 keys items are IP address, subnet mask and default gateway. Also what is your OS, it does make a difference in trouble shooting. If you don't have the manual, here is a link:: http://www.speedtouch.nl/docs/ST585_UserGuide.pdf
TheReverendTholomewPlague
I don't know about automatic network detection as I just plugged it into ethernet, let it connect and then tried to configure it through its webpage. OS is Win7 32Bit Ultimate

buddah
You say you are trying to connect to a lan, what other equipmen6t is connected to the LAN ? If your router is set up properly you should be able to detect all other connected items. Have your set up the network? Joined the network ? also that modem/router will not support a virtual lan or print server abilities........So what is the purpose of the LAN ? TheReverendTholomewPlague
The purpose of the lan is for me and a few others to multiplay. Nothing else is connected at the moment (except for my rig of course). I can't set up the network as I get an error when I try to do so. Is there anything I can give you (Diagnostic reports etc...) to help solve this issue?
buddah
Well if you are just going to use it as a multi player hub, you don't need the default gateway. But you do need to have another device connected to the network or you have nothing to map. You may be having an issue with your modem/router as well. Can you access the GUI for the modem router ? TheTerminator2004
The purpose of the lan is for me and a few others to multiplay. Is there anything I can give you (Diagnostic reports etc...) to help solve this issue? Just to check, you are aware that even when it's fully working, the speedtouch probably won't allow you to play LAN games with other computers connected to it, right? That device is a router, which means it will only connect you to the internet, and not to any other PCs connected to it. You need to use a switch to connect devices within the LAN. As for setting it up, first of all check to make sure your network adapter is set to obtain an IP address automatically. The router acts as a DHCP server, so it should automatically assign the IP adress etc for you (in theory). You can check by going to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections, then right clicking on the network adapter and choosing 'Properties', then selecting 'Internet Protocol Version 4' from the list and clicking the Properties button. Make sure 'Obtain an IP address automatically' and 'Obtain DNS server address automatically' are selected, and click OK. Reboot the router, and reset your network adapter (right click on it -> disable, then once it's disabled, right click -> enable), and see if it works. If it doesn't work, see if you can do a factory reset on your router; it should explain how in the manual somewhere. It should be configured with the correct settings (standard IP address, DHCP enabled, etc) by default. If it still doesn't work, you can try configuring it manually. Go to the IPv4 window again, and select 'Use the following IP address:' instead of 'Obtain an IP address automatically'. In the IP address field put 192.168.0.2, put 255.255.255.0 in the subnet mask box, and put 192.168.0.1 for the default gateway. Click OK, reboot the router and reset your adapter, and see if it works (though I doubt it will unless youre very lucky. It looks like it's more likely to be a problem with your adapter's configuration than a problem with the router. Your ipconfig results say that DHCP is disabled, which is probably why you're having trouble connecting.
TheReverendTholomewPlague
buddah: I can't. The_Terminator: I have used this router for multiplay before but someone else was wired to it while I was using a belkin wireless adapter
buddah
Then they may have changed the settings and if they put it into bridge mode you are going to have to do a reset back to factory defaults as well. Check the owners manual for instructions on this, but there is usually a reset button in the back that requires you to insert a pointed object to accomplish this function, but check the manual for specifics......some have strange procedures on resetting and you have to hold the button while powering down, etc, etc. But the point by the terminator is a good one. I am not familiar with that router brand and model.
