VELOCITY3D
Rather new to modding this particular game. I've thought to download some current mods and try them out, take them apart and see how they work.I've downloaded the "Amy Dresses" from this site and I wanted to locate the actual texture .dds files to edit in photoshop. I have looked high and low for these files, searched everywhere in my computer. Made a new folder, extracted the mod there and searched through all the folders. I CAN NOT locate these .dds files. Is there another texture format I should be looking for? It had some .tga files but those appeared to be only icons, not textures. The actual file is .dazip. I just renamed it to .zip (only a copy not the original) and extracted to a separate folder - does anyone have any tips about where I might or how I might locate the actual texture files for this mod. Here is the link to the mod: http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1113 :::In the 3d work I normally do, creators usually place all file locations in the *read mes* I really wish this were the case here - as a noob to this particular game and user tools this is very daunting!!!:::
Thandal
Welcome, VELOCITY3D! While not it's geared toward modders, this article might provide you some useful info: "Using Dragon Age Mods for Dummies". For one thing, it'll help you undertand the various kinds of DA mods that are out there. But to your question of "Where are the Textures?" in this mod, they're in a ".erf" (Encapsulated Resource File). Specifically; "R18PN_AMY_AM_CORE_1.0.22\Contents\addins\R18PN_AMY_AM\core\data\R18PN_AMY_AM_modcore.erf". (Although there are two other .erfs, they are 1kb each so I don't think they contain textures.) You'll need a tool to unpackage the .erfs. I use this set of utilities, posted on the BioWare Social Network (BSN) to manipulate these files: "pyGFF" (that's the name of the "project".) Hope that helps.
VELOCITY3D
Thank you!I did manage to find the textures and used the DA Toolset to extract the .dds files. Edited one, saved back to the package, loaded game - looked for changes, boo - there weren't any. I'm not sure why that is. I note that each texture also has a specular map and a couple others that look like just copies of the main files - maybe I should edit them all. Seems sort of redundant. Another thing I was wondering (and I'll have to cross my fingers and hope that you see this added reply) Was is it possible to add another copy of the Amy dress to this mod. I have found that I am unable to change the colors of the dresses in game - with four people in my party, I guess it seems silly, but I don't want 2 wearing the same color. I did download this universal tint mod but it says it doesn't recognize the materials so I can't use it to change the colors. As a matter of fact that doesn't seem to work very well at all for me. I barely notice any tint change on anything - although I'm sure that must be something I am doing wrong. I had initially thought I would just copy a set of the files, give them a new name - but then I realized there is the problem with getting them in game lol. This mod has a wish-stone and the script for that stone only offers the 3 colors so I am sure the script would also need to be changed in order to include another dress set. Ahhh and that's not all either. I also have a problem when creating the dresses for Wynne - it keeps setting a 30 strength requirement on her dresses when they spawn. How odd right? I double and triple check that the clothing she is wearing when I spawn them are all for casters. Even more strange, if I switch characters and then look at the dress stat - the requirement becomes 30 magic, or no requirement at all! All while looking at the same dress. To me this is VERY strange - I can't understand how it could be another mod conflict at all - since these are stand alone items. One thing I think I may have done that could cause some of these problems is I did the mod where you get all the extra characters - -- How could this effect this, I do not know, but it is my only best guess. Any help on any of these issues is quite appreciated!
Thandal
If I were a modeller, I might be able to help you more. Since I'm not... I would recommend getting in contact with the AMY-series author directly. Just use the link on the mod page itself.
