I have some questions and speculation........

I was just thinking about the new skill system.

So, what happened to Attributes?

So far i haven't heard anything about them making a return, though it would seem unlikely.

Are they being replaced with perks?

If not, My main inquiry is, with all the changes to skills, what will the attributes govern now?

Next is the perks.

From what I've heard, there are perks for each skill. This would suggest that there are Crafting perks, Eg; Alchemy, Enchanting, and Armorer. Have we any word what they might be?

Next is the skills.

If there are 18 skills, including; Alchemy, Alteration, Illusion, Destruction, Restoration, Conjuration, 2-Handed,

1-Handed, Bows, Enchanting, and I'm pretty sure Armorer is now called Smithing.

Thats 11 confirmed Skills. There may be more confirmed but i'm not aware of that. Now from this "Perk Examples: Decrease the sound of your footsteps" in the Skyrim info thread it would be easy to deduct that Sneak is returning.

Thats 12 Skills. Then block would have to be in in some form, so 13 skills.

If you look, at the screenshot that shows the new menu layout, Found HERE

The two skills cutout at the side start with "SMIT" and the other ends with "AFT", I believe that they may be "Smithing" and the other might be Speechcraft.

Also, if Mysticism is being cut, maybe the soul trap spell will be incorporated into Enchanting?

So if there are 18 skills, 11 of which are confirmed, and few that will be likely to return, And then there are 3 skills in total that are cut from the last game, Mysticism being the only confirmed one, and Blade and Blunt are being replaced with One and Two Handed, And Block and Sneak seems like probable inclusions, Then what skills do you think will make a return and what will not?

If i'm right, and those 14 (including Block, Sneak and Speechcraft) are in, i'd say Security, Athletics, Hand to Hand, Heavy Armour, Light Armour are the others likely to appear. But that equals 19. Armour is definitely in, so Light and Heavy might be merged? I don't know, that seems unlikely, and we haven't heard anything about Hand to Hand yet.

So from all that, i'd say these skills are in, Alchemy, Alteration, Illusion, Destruction, Restoration, Conjuration, 2-Handed,

1-Handed, Bows, Enchanting, Smithing, Speechcraft, Sneak, Block, Heavy Armour, Light Armour, and Security. The Last skill i'm not sure of, it would likely be rather Hand to Hand, or Athletics. They could obviously merge Mercantile and Speechcraft together, and maybe even Athletics And Acrobatics. Hand to Hand, is a combat preference so i would back it as th last skill most likely.

That means; Mysticism has been cut

Acrobatics has been cut

Mercantile and SpeechCraft will likely be merged.

Rather Hand to Hand or Athletics is cut.

This is speculation but it does make sense, from the factors we know so far.

Thoughts?

Very well made post.

I feel that they will most likely throw out hand-to-hand since Bethesda seem to have difficulty finding a way to make it useful compared to the weapons you wield/spells you cast. If not, then I predict athletics will be absorbed by acrobatics and hand-to-hand will make a return in some way, Although I'm doubtful of that for the above reason.

Man, speculating stuff is fun.

I really hope attributes and birthsigns make a come back I like that little bit of planning ahead it gives you. I don't mind the changes to skills and the new level up system with no classes I think it makes more sense personally. Edited by NAPALM13092

I'm not sure if it's true, but i heard somewhere Acrobatics was cut. If Acrobatics is cut, then i'd say they are merging it with Athletics, and hand to hand is being cut.

Unless, they spring an entirely new skill on us.

Conjuration with Soul trap?

Is that confirmed?

I really wonder how the enchanting skill will work. I only got to play Morrowind once, for a few hours at a friends house, and enchanting is something I never tried.

Can any one tell me how it worked in Morrowind?

From what you say, that makes Alteration sound even better than it already was. Open Lock Spell FTW!

This may be just wishful thinking, but I thought speechcraft would be taken out since I never used it and from talking to others seems like they haven't either. Noticing the -craft cut off sort of lowers my spirits because I had hoped it would be replaced by something cooler.... maybe Shout Crafting? lol :P

At first, i forgot about speechcraft, and thought it was spellcrafting as a skill. Then when i realised, i wasn't very happy.

Elder Scrolls VI: Summerset Isle better have Spellcrafting skill! :P

Remember there are 18 skills now that means they only cut 3. So every style must have 6 skills at least. We know the for a fact that the 6 magic skills are Enchanting, Destruction, Restoration, Alteration, Conjuration, and Illusion. The stealth skills we know about so far are Alchemy, Sneak, Marksman, and Light Armor. Lastly the combat skills we know of are Two-Handed Weapons, One-Handed Weapons, Block, and Heavy Armor.

That still leaves 2 combat and 2 stealth skills to be determined. That leaves Hand-to-Hand, Security, Acrobatics, Athletics, Speechcraft, Mercantile, and Armorer to be either readded, changed, or merged to fill the 4 remaining slots.

My guess is Speechcraft and Mercantile get merged as 1 stealth skill with Acrobatics is the other stealth skill, Atheletics and Hand-to-Hand get merged with Armorer as the other combat skill, Security is removed with auto pick is determined by luck or a random dice roll for everyone.

That would leave the skills as:

Magic (old Mysticism spells broken up between remaining schools)

Enchanting

Destruction

Restoration

Alteration

Conjuration

Illusion

Stealth

Alchemy

Sneak

Marksman

Light Armor

Acrobatics

Speechcraft (merged with Mercantile)

Combat

Armorer

One-Handed Weapons

Two-Handed Weapons

Block

Heavy Armor

Athletics (determines unarmed melee damage)

This i agree with.

This I doubt.

It makes sense that they might cut Hand to Hand, it was unused by many. Athletics could be merged with Acrobatics but not Hand 2 Hand.

I reckon they cut, Mysticism, Hand to Hand and Acrobatics, and merged Mercantile into speechcraft.

I would understand it if hand to hand were cut, I sort of expect it to be even, but I wish it weren't. I'd rather they fix hand to hand so that it is more desirable. Adding in fist weapons and more animations for more attacks would be a great start. I'd love to role a monk for once. I never did in Oblivion cause it just doesn't work very well.

As far as speculation, I could see mercantile and speechcraft combined. You need some smooth talking when it comes to barter and trade/business in general. I'm not sure about athletics and acrobatics being combined, but I could see acrobatics being scrapped, maybe even athletics.

If they introduced any new skills, the only one I could imagine right now would be something related to dual wielding.
