50percentJoe
Hi, this is my first mod, so if I say something completely ignorant... well then I pretty much admitted right there that its because I am. I'm trying to attach a ballistic neck guard from one mod to the vest of one of the TG armor collection suits. I have exported the guard as an OBJ from nifskope, then imported it onto the vest. I know I'm missing a step, I just don't know what that is, or if I'm doing this completely wrong I'd really appreciate being pointed to a good tutorial for first time mesh editing. I've really never touched meshs, I've just been a go to texture artist for years.
GrindedStone
It's rare that I need something in Object format. If the two meshes are both .Nif Nothing says that you can not edit them as .Nif in order to produce whatever it is you want. This is called the "Mash up" which you take the basic body an skeleton, hide all of that, import another mesh, delete the parts you don't want, then un-hide the first mesh, an slowly work in each piece. You have to deal with bone weight which most of the time you just copy from another shape, an also parenting the new shapes to the skeleton of the first mesh, an then it's just cleaning up an export. Then using Nifscope to do a very basic scan an set up of the mesh before putting it into the game. Blender or 3DS max would be the tool to use, and there would be more than one way to do it. Basicly what you would do is to follow a armor "mash up" tutorial. It doesn't always work, an you have to learn it not just do it. So try doing all of them more than once, over an over until you don't have to look at them anymore. These are two I know off hand, go look for some yourself an also see if there are video tutorials.
