What should I use?

Since I have owned Vanilla Oblivion. I have used tons of mods for this game. Some are nice. Others are useless. But most of them seem to slow down my FPS. And honestly, I'm getting a bit sick and tired of doing tweaks in the .ini and other parts just to get this damn game going. Hence the reason why I havent' really played it much. Just seems like I spend more time trying to get Oblivion to work rather then actually playing the damn game! :-)

After being away from Oblivion. I'm back to finally play it. NO!! I do not want to tweak anything! I want to play it once and for all. So, with all said and done. What mods should I add to Vanilla Oblivion that will enchance it. And take all this hard work for me out. Should I just add OOO 1.3? Or add only Martigens Monster Mod? Or only add Francesco leveled creature?

I once had over 50 mods along with OOO, MM and Francesco. I went through hell tweaking everything jsut to get my computer to play it with decent FPS. I even had to disable Vsync! And I hate playing any game with that disabled.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are having problems with your .ini. file you just have to reinstall you game

To enhance your experience, yes?

OOO 1.31 would be a must have. Natural Environments as well, though it might hit your FPS. I always use Ren's when I play, since I like the hair, but that's just me. Keep a couple armor/weapons mods that you like and will use, but dont get too many.

I don't know about Franc or MMM, since I don't have those, but they sound fun, if you can get them working without too many conflicts, why not?

There was this mod, I forgot the name, but the initials where MOE. Modular Oblivion E[something], adds lots of new things, such as werewolves and liches. If you are patient, you could wait for our Total Conversion :). Official site here.

Funny, I had all these mods you mentioned. Indeed it does make the game nicer. But it just drops my FPS. I hate that! Someone suggested I just go with OOO 1.31d and leave it as is and just play. What do you think?

It is an option you could live with. The biggest FPS dropper would be Natural Environments there, so you could uncheck that from your list. It is a sacrifice to remove good mods, but if you really want your FPS to be good, then do what you must. Buy a newer video card if you want it that bad  .

Unmoded Oblivion is so plain... Still, give OO-Only a try. In worst case scenario, you will add mods one by one if you find it lacks something... And uncheck it as soon as you witness an FPS hit.

Personally I'm using alot of mods, and I can live with the 12-40 FPS I get in certain areas. 15 isn't so bad, the screen flickers a little.

I had very similar problems whenever I played oblivion. I reinstalled and played the game only with MMM and about 12 other mods. Then on another save profile with OOO 1.31 + 10 others. Ran quite smoothly for me. I haven't tried Fransesco's mod so I can only tell you even one of these mods (OOO 1.31 or MMM 1.6? or newer) adds enough to the game itself.

I have tried to use variety for the other mods I include for each profile. (Armour, homes, improvements, quests, appearance, etc.) I use the utility Wrye Bash to look up the mods that I use for each SAve so I have the right ones enabled. Allows me to try a greater variety of mods without having too big an impact on performance.

Modular oblivion enhanced (MOE) I have tried, like Martigens Monster Mod, with many of it's features in seperate plugins you can enable what you are most likely to use and turn other parts off. I don't know if that will help at all with FPS but it seems to be useful for me. It adds some really important things to the game, like those stated above, including some nostalgic things from Morrowind like travel services, Blight and Ashstorms.

If you use small textures when playing Oblivion, Lorise's Cyrodil Complete has a noticeable performance boost with small textures. It comes in the form of OMOD (Oblivion Mod Manager files) It has a component that works on OOO 1.31 textures, can't tell you too much more about it though as I tend to avoid using texture replacers.

Personaly I'd say go MMM the newest version is great. No tweaks? Tweaks to the cs and .ini are some of the best mods out there :( and personaly the only thing I can really do with the cs, plus there easy to manage and (AS FAR AS I KNOW) tweaks to the cs under settings do not crash the game.

An alternative to Natural Environment could be AWS. Its style is a little different, but it looks nice and I think it gives a smaller fps loss.

There are a few mods that add extra's to AWS, so search for AWS at tessource.

Thanks so much to everyone that helped me out. I really appreciate that a lot. Tiberius...actually for me its a little different. I know most of you are going to laugh at me. But hey! That's the way I am. I actually have 2 Nvidia 7900GTX cards in SLI setup for this game. Along with a AMD FX-57 cpu. With Vanilla Oblivion I get anywhere between 30-60 FPS with Vsync enabled ( a must for me to have it enabled ). Once I add OOO, MMM, Frans etc etc. Of course along with tweaking the .ini. I now start to get FPS between 25-45. But mostly on the lower range of that.

Some people I talk to say that is not bad at all. I myself disagree. If I'm going to play this game..I want high FPS. I never want my FPS to go down lower than say....35FPS. And this is with a lot of characters on the screen.

I'm sorry....cs? What is cs?

There is a simple mod, I don't have the name or link handy at work, but it resets the key graphic settings when you go into and out of combat so that you can get great visuals when you're exploring, but when you're in combat you get "tunnel vision" and only see what's nearby. It makes a big difference in framerate when the engine gets busy with combat AI, and still lets you enjoy the scenery when the activity slows down. Once you've had a couple of battles, you never even notice it because you're so focused on nearby enemies anyway. And you really don't even notice if you're inside since all it does is drop some shadows and trivial details that you would only notice if you were looking for them.

I highly recommend it - maybe it was "combat mod" or something like that. I believe I found it at TESSOURCE.com.

Good luck!
