Process For Modelswapping

So I've been trying to get in to model swapping here but was curious if there was something I'm missing? By my understanding, you can swap the default Venom Snake model by replacing the plparts_venom from chunk0 with your desired target model, say for example Ocelot's mis_com_ocelot from the mission2 folder. However after I rename the file and recompile the .inf, the game just loads infinite when I start the game. Is there a process I'm missing?

 

Edit: Just to clarify, I'm not new to modding, I spent a year writing tutorials for SC2 mods before it was shut down by Blizzard and usually don't have issues with this stuff, but for whatever reason when I seemingly replicate the same steps other people are doing, I have no luck, so I'm wondering if there's another step people are doing because obviously I can't start writing things for MGS if there's a basic function I'm overlooking for whatever reason.
