Flickering weapon and shield

Ok, I have had this problem before..

it's very simple.

as soon as I pull out my weapon in first person mode or activate block, my shield/weapon flicker along with my hands.

I remember that I had this problem when I firstgot the game and I fixed it somehow but that was so long ago I dont remember how I did it

This only happens in first person mode, as soon as i enter third person mode, the flickering dissapears.

and something else...

This is by far the strangest thing i have ever seen. When i enable anti-aliasing at 4x or 6x the textures of my characters hair get small circular holes in it and show the skin texture underneath... this also happens with the textures of the land, in specific places the textures of the land get circular holes in it and i am able to see the sky through them. When i disable anti-aliasing or run it at 2x the holes dont appear.

one other thing.. the circular holes are in patterns. This problem is not just a sole problem of Oblivion. In some other games the problems are worse, the holes appear in trees and animals as well as gameplay menus.

If anyone can help with either of these problems i would be eternally greatful.

Thanks

I belive so, I went to my Dx Diag to find the info (under the display tab) and it said the approximate total memory was 64 Mb.

You're using a 64 MB card to run Oblivion, and then also enable AA? o_O

64 MB is lower than the minimum system requirement for Oblivion. If you don't meet the minimum requirement, weird things can happen. I don't know what the problem is.

I suppose you are using Oldblivion? Ask at the forums there, since they probably know more about that.

The ATi 9600 series is a supported chipset of oblivion..

i don't know if any of the other cards in that series have more memory or not, but it would seem wierd to incorporate support for a chipset that has insufficent capabilities... now beside that point.

I have run Oblivion on the exact same computer with the 68mb video card memory for about a year.. a while ago I uninstalled Oblivion, but it was only recently that I had decided to reinstall it so all of the games settings where returned to their default.

I dont feel I explained in my first post well enough the situation surrounding this problem.

when I first got Oblivion way back in the day, I was able to run the program at the mid-high range without problem. I did the ehtire beginning part inside the sewers, and as soon as i stepped outside the weapon, hands, and shield that showed up in FP (first person) flickered... This problem was only exclusive to the FP mode, as soon as I switched to the TP (third person) the flickering ceased. Now, by flickering i mean it flashes as if the frame rate where very low. however the fps was high enough that the movements of all the surrounding environments and myself couldn't be smoother. I know I fixed this problem back then because I continued to finish oblivion in FP and have no problem, but I cant remember what exactly I did.

Now since all the settings are defaulted, whatever I had fixed is gone now and the flickering in FP is back.

That is as entirely as I can explain the problem.

Oh and I am not using Oldblivion, infact i didn't even know about it until you mentioned it

One other thing, what is AA?

Oh sorry, said it was a 68 Mb video card. 64 Mb

AA is anti-aliasing for short. ATI Mobility? You're running it on a laptop then? Deffinitly get Oldblivion, I have a card like that running it on Oldblivion. The graphics look bad in place's but it works. Laptop cards are kinda in there on ballgame. The VRAM (video ram) is a very important factor when playing a game.

i

Most cards in that series has 128 MB, it's just the mobility version that has 64. On Oblivion's box it also says a 128 MB video card is a minimum.

But hey, if it runs... :)
