Ghost Ability on player problem

So I designed a "Ghost Helm" with a world model set up like the drain weapons from Labyrinthian and it looks great and applies the ghost ability to the player and some other abilities/perk modifications when worn but when the helm is removed, the particle shader and color shader effects go away but the player remains transparent. Is there some way to get around this that anyone knows? Is there a script function that could redefine NPC opacity or something?
