duude98
I have a question about a specific part of making a new race, phoneme mapping. I can't find a tutorial for this anywhere on the internet. First though, let me back up a bit. I have made a custom race for the creation kit, using the flame atronach skeleton and animations. There is a only a female version, as it is for an npc, and will not be playable. Because of this, I never made weight slider morphs or even a seperate mesh for the head (I am guessing thats part of it). When I go to the phoneme mapping section of the race menu of the ck, everything is greyed out. How do I edit phonemes in the first place? Does the flame atronach skeleton just not support it? duude98
Anyone know? I thought this would be a pretty simple question, actually...
nonoodles
The atronach skeleton doesn't support it. What you need to do is get face morphs somehow rigged onto the atronach's head. It's definitely not one of the simplest things around :D As far as I know, only two people have ever made mods with new heads + facial morphs, tktk's children and Citrus head....at least here on the nexus. You could maybe contact one of those authors? There's also a fairy mod around, think it's based off a custom skeleton melded to the flame atronach skeleton. Apart from a somewhat awkward idle posture, it appears to work just fine.
duude98
Well, that's good to know, thanks. At least the character I am working with I could reasonably say communicates through telepathy lol. Anyway, next question(s); If I make a new race based off the regular nord/player character skeleton, then that should just work, right? And, as a side question, the children NPCs use the regular skeleton, just sized down, correct? I can't find a unique skeleton for them.
nonoodles
If you just duplicate the nord race, yes. If you use an original head mesh, you'll need to rig it for the morphs. And yes, child skeletons are the same as adult skeletons.
duude98
Cool, thanks. I do plan to use an original head mesh, so by "rig it for the morphs", you mean the facial bones that are present in the base skeleton, right? Or are there special morph bones stored somewhere else? nonoodles
I don't mean rig in the way you would the body. If you examine the Skyrim human head nif, you'll see it doesn't actually store the morph/phoneme data in it. Those are elsewhere, in the .tri files and that's what you need to do, generate a .tri file. This should be helpful.
