Modifying Creature Textures Help

I'm using Gimp 2.8 to re-texture .dds files, nifskope to open .nif files, and fomm to extract .bsa files. I can open and

 

modify texture files okay with Gimp and place them in the data folder, but when I open the .nif in nifskope the model is

 

textureless.

 

Files are:

 

Data/textures/creatures/ghoul/ghoulrabid.dds

 

Data/Meshes/Creatures/ghoul/ghoulrabid.nif

 

For NifSkope, I have already gone to Render --> Settings and manually inputted the Fallout New Vegas Data directory.

 

For after I get that figured out, how do I apply the new texture and "new" model in the geck?

 

A little confused about creature modification/creation, so I'd really appreciate any help.
