Becoming High King/Queen and Actually Ruling

There have been several posts about this idea, but as far as I can tell nothing has came from them. I know that there is the mod Become High King, and it's nice, but I never really felt like a king. Other people have had great ideas about this, like the PC creating/joining/whatever his or her own faction and entering the civil war as a third party. Anything along those lines or joining the Stormcloacks and eventually challenging Ulfric for the right to rule or any other idea to get to a position of rulership would be great. Then, of course, actually getting to rule Skyrim would be a blast. Making decisions about the Thalmor, the Empire, potential rebellions or upstart jarls, and then many other facets or rulership would be amazing.

I'm just now starting to learn to mod on my own, but this idea would obviously be way, way, way over my head. I just think that it is an idea that many people have had, it would make Skyrim even better and deeper than it already is, and would make being the Dragonborn actually mean something. Saving the world is great, but I want to be recognized for that kind of thing. At the very least, I wanted to try to get someone much more talented than I am interested. It would be a huge undertaking, and more than likely it will never happen. If there is any shot at all though, then this post is worth it.

Thanks for reading my post and I would love to hear from other people that are interested or that had other ideas/improvements/etc.

I agree with about how big and difficult something like that would be. Maybe if the civil war was just left as is, and after it had been completed your character could get into some intrigue and politicking to boost their "right to rule" or whatever you would call it. For upstanding characters they could help people and solve problems. Shady characters could use bribes and threats and blackmail or some mix of the two.

I agree 100% about not getting to rule. Mods like High King and Jarl of Ivarstad are great, but not exactly what I'd like. Living like a king, with both the positives and negatives that go along with it, and dealing with realm wide issues and being recognized as the Dragonborn King, maybe even the second coming of Talos, would be my absolute perfect game.

Another possibility that would make this idea much more likely is to get in contact with the person who is working on the high king mod and see if he or she is going to make additions or would be open to any of these suggestions. Starting with such a solid base would make things much easier I would think. If anybody knows how to contact the person managing that mod, I's be happy to ask if they were interested in any of this.

The sticky on it's posts page explains the status of that mod quite clearly

I haven't played it, and in my humble opinion this kind of extraordinary capabilities would make a good quest mod only if this was some fantasy story where you get this power over people's life granted to you by some supernatural means, for a period of time, say a week, and during this week the player face some "governing" challenges and overcome them using these gameplay extensions in a creative way.

Someone has quite clearly taken over the mod on steam, so there is that. Besides that, what you're suggesting is not at compatible with my opening post. My idea, and it's not just mine several other people have talked about the same kind of thing and I also realize how much work it would take and is unlikely to happen, is for the PC through some means, be it the civil war, political intrigue, or some other way becomes the ruler in Skyrim. Whatever quests or tasks to get to that point would be a significant part of the mod. After that, as the ruler of Skyrim there are countless possibilities of major events that could happen, such as war, diplomatic relations, trading, and other happenings along with some of the day to day challenges a ruler faces.
