Tavenda
Action Combat is a good mod that adds IMHO a much-needed stagger concept to the game based on poise. Even good mods have it's problems, but the biggest one(and the reason why I'm making this post) is that it's no longer receiving updates. I'm asking, no begging that at least one of you mod author's out there try their hand at updating this mod. I left it because it has a bad way of stagger looping you, but it seems to be the most reactive stagger mod out there, on top of that, it has a parry system, that a lot of people like, including me..at least when I had the mod. >< (Believe I posted this in the wrong forum, so now I'm posting it here.) pyrotx
Well without knowing anything about the mod or how it works, I would suggest either making it so the player is more resistant to staggering, or have a perk added to the player so that after you are staggered, you gain a temporary stagger resistance that maybe stacks up. But the problem is in modifying someone else's mod, they may not allow it. It might just be better to learn the scripts for stagger effects and make an addon. Tavenda
The link tells of how it works, but I'll say so here as well then. It works by calculating via a poise system based on how much armor rating you've got. I'm not sure how it's calculated(The author never left a formula), but the more armor rating you have, the more poise you've got. Regular hits damage the hidden poise number, and when it hits zero, a stagger based on the MCM settings you've set occurs and larger weapons reduce poise faster. A lower stamina makes poise drop faster as well. Power attacks however, ignore poise, and create a stagger no matter what..if it lands. And during a stagger, the NPC/PC can take roughly 70% more damage(The increase is less on the PC) and of course, this feature can be turned on or off via MCM. Creatures tend to not have armor, so poise is based on their level instead. Also, arrows and hostile magic spells can create a stagger that's also configurable via MCM. I may not have said everything at the link, but this is a pretty good mod if I say so. This is all great, but the thing is, it has a few problems. Sometimes you can get stunlocked(Constant stagger looped) by some spells, like the concentration spells flames, and sparks, and while there's a setting to set what magnitude of spells(Most concentration spells have a magnitude of at least eight) sometimes it doesn't work. Also, it doesn't seem to calculate your poise if you've used an alteration spell to give you armor, you'll stagger as if you don't have any armor rating. And, the mod can cause a bit of bloat and script lag because I believe it takes it's scripts and scans the world, and drops the script on all npcs instead of those that are in range or in combat, and, it doesn't remove it's scripts from dead npcs, as if waiting for them to do something while dead..at least from what I've read in the comments. Good thing is, you don't have to worry about permissions to modify/fix this mod, because the mod author has already said that AC is up for grabs to anyone who'll continue the mod. I wouldn't have dropped a plea for this mod to be continued if that wasn't the case. Edited October 17, 2015 by Tavenda
pyrotx
Well if you want to change the balancing of specific spells, go into the magic menu and create a new effect. Basically set it to add the stagger immune perk to the target for any duration of time, make one for concentration for spells like flames and sparks with a duration of 1 second, and some for single hit spells, then add the new effects to each spell individually. Next for the alteration armor, I would suggest adding an effect to manually add to the poise rating directly through the same process. As for the scripts, I don't really have any idea where to start, i'm not really an expert in programming. You could try making so if an alteration spell that has the keyword armor in it is cast, it will register for an update, but I have no clue how it would actually be done. Or you could add stagger resistance effects to the spells. Your best bet to improve performance is to install performance mods, like fps booster or something else, and uninstall mods that are too heavy on performance like graphics or HD mods.
