Custom Texture Support Announced for Witcher 3 Modkit

thats all nice and great but if the texture limit of 20-25 is true this is only going to make things worse on that front. I fail to see what the point is of limiting the amount of texture mods you can have. i could sort of understand script mods as they have the potential to keep the game from starting but texture mods is the easiest thing to fix if it causes an issue.

They say they're not gonna do a complete kit, but then they also said a couple of months before that that they couldn't wait to see the new quests and lands people were gonna create.

All I know is they keep their mouth pretty shut about modding in general. Which is a pity.

You could edit them, but the way it was set up the normal maps wouldn't go in without putting it through a hex editor. Basically, all we could do without hex editor before was diffuse maps, and the way they set it up that's not enough.

Plus, their whole system is whacky and unlike any other game. And they refuse to explain it. At least now we don't have to use a hex editor. But it's still incredibly hard to make good texture mods with their system. So many things in the game share textures, for one. For two, specular maps are spotty and random. For three, the _a map is different on EVERY texture.

They really need to document the set up, but as Thibaudv said, they're closed lipped about modding in general. Which is one of the reasons for my venting post in another thread. It just seems like they don't care about us anymore. :/

They didn't before launch, showed off Redkit 2 numerous times and said it would be ready a couple months after release a la Bethesda tools. Then they never talked about Redkit again after showing up at Microsoft's E3 event, and having Microsoft handle their TV commercials + marketing. Most likely they got paid to cancel Redkit 2, and put out tools with very restrictive limitations.

Doubtful. They showed Redkit - the tool from Witcher 2. Not anything new. Chances are they just don't care. See my post in the sticky thread.

Does anyone know how to edit the textures of foliage, trees, and grass, etc? When I uncook the game files, all foliage files are .DDS files. But for some reason I can't get any changes I make to .DDS files to show up in the game. Additionally the .DDS foliage, is a lot higher quality than the foliage seen in the game, it's bizarre.

RedKit2 was never shown, it was strictly talked about and described verbally. Your MS conspiracy theory make no sense whatsoever in the context of the modding tools.

It makes much more sense in the context of the technical/visual downgrade, this is CDPR's first massive multiplatform release, they get partnered with both Sony and MS, especially with MS since they had a huge marketing deal. They don't want to upset the console vendors by making their version of the game severely inferior to the PC version/they are outright told by them that they cannot do it/they are heavily "incentivized", be that in passive aggressive ways or monetary bonuses/penalties, to establish a level of platform parity.

Does this tie into the conspiracy by providing broken, half-assed modding tools so players can't make the PC version better either? Haha.

CDPR sold out. I held out hope it wasn't the case - they used to be the bright beacon of hope in this industry - but they've sold out. Now they don't even give us the courtesy of real responses. It's a slap in the face. Plus, I'm pretty sure getting people to buy your product based on a promise (like awesome modding tools) and then not providing the promised item is false advertising. And that is illegal. I'm surprised there isn't talk of a class action suit or something. I'm no lawyer, of course, so this is just my educated guessing, but it's pretty fishy. Shady. And in the end, incredibly sad.
