ginnyfizz
Sorry for double post! It seems the card is not a duffer after all, Overclockers.co.uk have tested it and thoroughly benchmarked it and found that it works, and they are a firm I would tend to trust. So it is being re-delivered this afternoon. My system builder came around last night to borrow something and said that since my rig is working perfectly with the old card, never a BSOD to be seen, he does not believe that there is a fault with the motherboard/other hardware, which is thoroughly AMD ATI and Crossfire ready, and both he and Overclockers support agreed that the fact I updated the system BIOS to the latest revision since sending the card back will have done no harm at all. It is far more likely, sez both of them, that with my arthritic hands I have not connected something quite firmly enough. Even the AMD/ATI guide to the 5850 HD Extreme points to cables not connected properly as a likely cause. Well, I have a choice of four PCI-e slots as well as loads more six pin sockets available on my PSU, with new cables to put in to them, so between me and Al the system builder, we should get the thing going. And once we do, another of the same cards shall go on order.
