AllegedAlec
Hi there everyone, After seeing a Long War let's play, I decided to start a playthrough of it once more. However, as I installed the latest version (b15.3f) onto a clean install of XCOM, I ran into some issues. Right at the end of the installation, when an error came up saying "XCOMModHelper stopped working". I clicked away the error, and the installation finished without further issues. Then, as I attempted to start the game, the world map was empty; I wasn't able to select a starting country. I uninstalled XCOM completely, updated my .net, reinstalled both XCOM and Long War, but the issue remained. I have also done a clean XCOM reinstall, remove all other local XCOM files in the my_games/XCOM folder, but it still doesn't work. I was hoping any of you know how to fix this. dubiousintent
Where do you have XCOM (and the LW archive) installed? If it is into the default path of "C:\Program Files", then you need to move it elsewhere. See the wiki article "Installing Games on Windows Vista+". There should be a log file in the folder where you unpacked the LW installer and ran it. Check it for errors and include it with your bug report. But "install problems" are almost always specific to your situation and not a bug with LW. I'll try to help you with them. Check that you have Steam in "offline" mode.Disable your Anti-Virus while installing. (You should have scanned it before that point anyway.)Standard boilerplate response follows: Long War bug reports should be checked first in the "Long War" download page "Bugs section" and then in the appropriate Beta Feedback thread in it's "forum section" before posting to ensure a response. (The LW Team has stated they don't check the main forum at all anymore for problems. Really, the dev team is the most likely to be able to help with a LW issue but anyone else who can also will be there.) You may also find that the answer is already known and posted in those sections.Be sure to read the "Readme" and "Detailed Troubleshooting" documents included with the LW download before reporting bugs. They need all the information requested there (including which OS platform: Windows, Linux, OS/X, ARM/IOS, etc.) to be able to help. If they can't reproduce the problem, they can't fix it. You increase your odds of getting help by re-reading included documentation and following instructions on reporting bugs, and then documenting what you have already tried ... in detail. Short "it's broke" reports simply generate requests for more detail; wasting time. Better too much detail than not enough. (Remember: This is all volunteer support, including the LW dev team. If you won't put in the effort to provide a good bug description, why should they spend time prying it out of you if it sounds vague enough to likely be something covered already?)While the LW installer handles any code modifications for you, it is still necessary to prepare your system for mods as laid out in the wiki article "Basic Guide to installing mods". The "Environment" section in particular still applies to LW, and the "OS/X mod installation" section has specifics for Mac versions. There is also a "Linux Differences" section. The first recommended fix is always to upgrade to the latest version (currently Beta 15F3). Be sure to check the release notes for the effect upon a saved game. -Dubious-

Thanks for the reply. Log File: no errors seen here whatsoever.Installation folder: no. I do not install in the standard C folders.Steam offline mode: tried playing in offline mode, but it did nothing.Anti-virus: none was running. Steps in troubleshooting: done them all, multiple times. No dice. I'll try to read the installing mods wiki asap to see if anything pops up. Some additional info:Apparently, I can press the accept button in the map screen. It then continues to an error I've heard about before: it shows 4 people in the dropship and afterwards hangs while on a black screen. Mouse is still moveable, but nothing happens apart from that. Checked the log file, but no critical errors were found.
dubiousintent
It still sounds like a bad install, even though you appear to have done everything to avoid it. Most likely is that you pointed the installer too deep into the XCOM folders. Check out the paths shown in the "Basic Guide" section titled "The Loose Files". Your best bet at this point is to revert to vanilla and try to install LW again, in "offline mode" this time. (Once you have run vanilla up to the main menu twice you don't need to be online any more.) This time point the installer only to the EU game folder (i.e. "steamapps\common\XCom-Enemy-Unknown\XComGame" ...NOT the EW "..\XEW" folder. The installer will find it's way from there. This is in the ReadMe but often overlooked in the wall of text because people are expecting to point to the EW folder. If none of that works, please post the last dozen lines of the logfile along with your install path. -Dubious-

I tried continueing anyhow, but it didn't work. I'm looking for the log file, but for the life of me, I cannot find it at the moment. I'll report back when I have found it.
