kradus
The adventurers we find in Skyrim on their way to a nearby dungeon, whom you can offer to help. I'm wondering if they can be found on Solstheim. Has anyone seen one?
CaptainPatch
Solstheim is too small of an area to have those wandering mercs. I believe that Bethesda added the wandering mercs to the game specifically to get players to move "off the beaten path" to explore areas not associated with main quest lines. Similar to the random comments made by guards and other NPCs that add map markers to your map. Skyrim is a BIG place, with lots of things going on all over the place. After having going to the bother of having created hundreds/thousands of Places Of Interest with associated sidequests, I'm sure the devs wanted to get as many players as possible to go and experience those projects the devs worked on. The wandering mercs was one of the mechanisms the devs created to help make that happen.
Stargazer09
I've always wandered about those. Talking to one and offering to do their job for them doesn't add a miscellaneous quest. It doesn't update the map with a new dungeon either, or maybe its becasue the location has already been discovered. In any case I do find the encounter a bit pointless. It was interesting the first time but after that... Edited October 30, 2015 by Stargazer09
CaptainPatch
What I've always wondered about is why would a mercenary give up a paying gig to some stranger? And if it's NOT a paying gig, why would a mercenary be doing it in the first place?

TheSpaceShuttleChallenger
Much like my coworkers, they collect payment for themselves whilst having somebody else do the work for them. Mercenaries aren't known for being principled. As for what they are and why they aren't in Solstheim, mercenaries are just one of the many ways that Bethesda leads us into radiant dungeons that we might not otherwise get to play if we rely exclusively on quests. Solstheim doesn't have them because it doesn't have much in the way of radiant locations to begin with. Pretty much everything in Solstheim is tied to a quest already, so randomly-encountered questgivers would just be redundant.
SPH1
I came across one just last night. Was tempted to follow her to see if she actually arrived and did the job...perhaps joining in myself. But that walk was going to take too long and I was messing with my stuff. Sometimes I pay to take over the gig; other times not. My map gets updated...so long as I have not already discovered the place. Otherwise, I have no idea where it is. _____________________________ My Stuff: Cracked Tusk Keep Tweaked: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/71322Ruined Whiterun Farmhouse Tweaked: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/68392SPH1's Rorikstead Farm House: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/68880SPH1's Saxon Norman Rorikstead Fort: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/71690 Youtube: Mounted Horse Combat: www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tmdH_zdDm8&feature=youtu.be
