Important mod information and the freeze issue

Recommended Posts

I thank you every one for your help :) but the entire issue has been fixed! I am now running the game full tilt, three merged texture mods and all, full resolution and playing for hours. I wish to share this link with you, I found it while goggling around on the freeze issue. It was posted over a year ago on the bioware boards, it's amazing both the guy who gave the fix and how one little line can mess up your entire game.

It basically involves a fix by a fellow named Xetrill and I put a direct copy paste of what he said here:

I am 99,9997% sure this is caused by one or more addins using the default module_core.ncs script as their event script.

To verify you need the toolset (because as of now no there is no other GFF editor available).

1. Go to your Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\AddIns directory and in there search for "*.cif"

(CIF files is where module properties are saved)

2. Load each CIF with the toolset (or better with the lighter/faster GFFEditor which comes with the toolset)

Lookup the "CAMPAIGN_CIF_ENTRY_SCRIPT" entry if its value is "module_core" you got your culprit.

3. The fix is to just clear that entry and save.

Dont worry about making it worse, the toolset will make an backup of any modified file.

P.S.: the toolset's GFF editor is located at GameDir\tools\GffEditor.exe

I was sceptical but figure WTH I've tried everything else!

Well I got about 120 or so cif's (yea I love me mods but not all are activated though they are installed). Out of the 120 or so there were two with this issue, Bloodmage Spells and jbarmorrunes. I deleted the entries and I've played hours today with out even a stutter. And as I said that's with a merged, JB, HDR, Dalis UD creatures, and Hi res textures plus the wagon textures.

I cannot help but wonder how many have issues because a key script was done in such a way. I am very ignorant baby when it comes to modding so I have no idea o_O

Would there be or could be other such universal scripts that would effect an entire game like that? After all the ones doing it was an armor runes mod and a mage spells mod .. who would have thought something like that could mess up and feeze a game so universally?

I am sure such will also be an issue in DA2 as well, cannot see how it can be otherwise. So I was just wondering if there were other universal goofs that a person could throw in an editor to check for errors. Believe me when I say I know next to nothing, and even I could do it.. Thank you for your consideration and for those reporting such issues, might be worth them having a look at files, beats heck out of doing a clean install and putting in mods one by one.
