I have a request:

COMMON SENSE!! The main quest is lacking common sense. When I started it, I was level 48, Grand Champion of the Arena, Archmage of the Mages Guild, and some other...less legal titles. When I got there, Jaufree (I think that's how it's spelled) said the amulet would be safest with him. WTF!? Common sense would say:

"You see here, that amulet would be safest with me. I'm Grand Champion and Archmage. Hundreds of enemies have fallen before me. How about I keep the amulet, go rescue the boy, then we'll meet you at the temple ok?"

Then just that happens. You can convince him it's for the better and go off to save Martin. Then, you bring him to the temple, he lights the fires, and all ends well. It would be great for people who don't really want to do the main quest and have already played long enough. Of course, you would be allowed into Cloud Ruler Temple, You wouldn't be named a Blade, and you definately wouldn't get the Imperial Dragon Armour (not like you're missing out on much).

There's also a second part, if you don't quite fit the requirements to skip the whole quest, you can try to at least skip half of it. When you go to those caves to stop Mankar Camoran, you should be able to kill him before he can escape, grab the amulet, and end it right there.

This would make a lot more sense.

Well if we're talking about common sense...

The amulet of kings is the only thing that came save the entire planet from the daedra invasion. You, the escaped prisoner, are asked by the Blades to deliver the amulet to Jauffre. If the amulet is lost, all hope is lost.

Why would any real person with common sense join and rise in all the factions and go hunting everywhere (with the risk of being killed, which means nobody will have the amulet) first? ;)

----------------------------------------------------------------

But for the request... What would you like to happen then? The amulet of kings will have to be taken by the enemy, or you might as well rewrite the entire main quest. How would a mythic dawn agent (who is even weaker than Jauffre) take that amulet from you? The Dark Brotherhood are better assassins I think and in Morrowind they always woke the player up when they came close, so actually stealing the amulet when you're asleep doesn't sound like a good option either.

Did you read my post? I said just that:

The point is to skip the entire main quest, because the main quest sucks!

Not saying I fully agree with ninja_lord, but I can definitely see a use for a mod like Morrowind's Never Say Nerevarine. It also appeals to me as a fanfic writer, since I'm always asking myself this sort of "what if?" question.

My question here would be whether the main quest is a hardcoded part of the game, or if it is even technically possible to add an alternative ending to the main quest.
