ninja_lord666
...Also, you would carry only about 200lbs at MOST. People running around with 500lbs on their backs and still being able to swing a battle axe is just physically impossible. Now if you want to change the unrealistic standards that we have grown to love... Go ahead. You not going to get many people on your side however. That is why you have the bag of holding
Vagrant0
I play games to get away from reality, I am fortunate enough to where if I wanted to go outside and watch some ants or something crawling around I can do so, I don't sit in my chair to play a game that lets me do that. I feel this is a healthy thing to do as people need that distinction between reality and fantasy. When there isn't enough distinction, people often lose themselves in the fantasy, and ignore the real world. If there was a game that had infinite depth, but wasn't constrained to the harsh truths of reality, you'd have people totally turning their back on reality in favor of the game. Even without the depth, people who's reality isn't that great still end up doing this, and dying, or becoming very screwed up. So no, even if there was the technology, this still isn't a good idea. Games are games, reality is reality, and the two should remain seperate.

Well, i guess we can come here less. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Listen to Heavy Metal and the Grunge Gods will thank you
Azotus
Now you see... We want them to resemble some reality. I mean, yes, why would you want to be yourself in some game. If you wanted to do that, go outside. However, when we are not ourselves in say, Oblivion, people want to kill others with some realism. I agree with that; but when you bring birds and that crap in there... There's no point. Now if you created a mod that makes people's heads explode on impact of a hammer, I might actually get that. Just for the sheer fun of watching some sleeping person's head explode. As for birds and insects... I'm good, thanks.
lilleku
Yes we play games to escape reality, or to be entertained..... Is that a bar for reality in games? And as i see it; as long as we are talking about games nothing will be realworld, it will be the makers interpretations of the realworld. And, Azotus, how in my bloody hard working *piehole* are you able to see reality in sitting on the top of a roof killing someone with a bow!? okay i see youre point in the post but still strongly disagree. both makers and endusers of games strive for good entertainment (many do atleast) and then they dont want to give the endusers something they cannot have any fun with, so either theyll make it an acceptable challenge to get your PH4t L3wt from dungeon to store or the players will easily enough have to drop some of it that they werent able to carry up onto that ledge they're sitting on anyway... but im starting to wander. I am also one of those asking for more reality, and then i mean reality like designs, situations and so on.I also want some supernatural elements, as it is i play nearly only overpowered characters because i love the way i just owned that guard with my bare fists and as he falls i see for my inner eye how the dust leaps into the air and quietly assembles on the once white logo cloak, or how powerfull drain fatigue spells look more "realistic" used in place of paralyze in my modest opinion... as for the adrenalin: i think it is very much possible, im actually trying to see whether i am able to make it meself right now, fingers crossed  ill give you some feed back on it later edit: I didnt see yor reply before posting and i get you drift, that is more or less what i mean XD
Marcus Wolfe
Okay, this is the most unique post i have seen. Let's all just focus on what everybody agrees on. Important things, big things, like being able to scare the crap out of people. we should disregard small things, like birds and bugs, that have no gameplay value. Wait a minute, what if you could hunt the birds? Hmmmmm.......Ninjalord will probably kill me on that one, but i just had to say that. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Listen to Heavy Metal and the Grunge Gods will thank you

Games are games, reality is reality, and the two should remain seperate. But If games got so realistic they were exactly like real life, with the exception that man could mould it to whatever they want... what would be so bad about it? It pretty much touches on the whole matrix thing, for all you know we could actually be in a game right now... what is real? lol. Thus how neo became an uber haxor in it, his mind truly realised he could manipulate it... maybe the power of the mind really is great. It is after all our "superior intelligence" that (apparently) seperates us from other animals. Whilst on the implication of instincts, a virtual world would definitely need some sort of administraters like the architect... because if humans knew they could manipulate things to their advantage, of course they are going to. Play any competitive online game, everyone tends to press their absolute advantage through exploits and sometimes hax. If this was so, it would undermine one of human kinds instinctual motivations to live: overcoming problems. Its sort of like using the console in in oblivion to cheat. Once you have done it, you regret it, because there is no longer a problem to overcome; despite your intense frustration with the initial problem anyway. However, if we manipulated things constantly to truly gain what we wanted absolutely, would we really care? I am unsure how to explain this last statement very well, but to look at it a different way: It is often said "if everything was perfect, it would be boring", but seeing as perfection is the absolute of all that is positive, with out ANY trace of negative... boredom obviously isnt a hallmark of perfection. So if everything was indeed 'perfect', would we really be bored?
