Usually I waited through the night and adventured during the day. Now I do the opposite since days are way too bright. It was working fine from the start, not changed any settings but suddenly the game became over bright.

im doing same since i started playing.

but the problem for me is that there is no "wait function" anymore like in all previous titles. i have to find something to lie down, and that is not a very practical solution, but then again, waiting through the night and playing only when its daytime is as much absurd for a video game as it gets.

quite frankly im shocked with some of the technical decisions bethesda took with this title.

how and why on earth you wont be giving permission to adjust brightness and gamma in a triple A game in 2015 year? that is just beyond me. and nothing like: "we already properly adjusted gamma for everyone" does not justify it.

I got used to it being bright but now it got even brighter. It looks like a permanent radiation storm

if u find any solition to this let me know pls , i cant play fo4 anymore because of this  and i am going to delte for sure

It looks like you are stuck in night-vision mode from using a night-vision scope. There is a console command you can use to reset it.

rimod 00094636 if you used a night-vision scope

rimod 002041B6 if you used a recon scope

Anyone with an overly bright game, your monitor should have a gamma and brightness adjustment and NVidia has those settings in the control panel so there is a workaround to be able to adjust settings except you would have to adjust them before and after playing.

Thank you! This solved it for me. I use a night vision scope often. I think when I reload while looking through the scope, sometimes this is causing the carryover of night vision to everything else. It got to the point where my entire screen would be white. I couldn't use my night vision scope unless I pointed it at something completely black, otherwise all I had was a big white circle.

Using the console command: rimod 00094636 turned the brightness back to the correct level and all is good again.

Thanks again.

The answer is a SAD one. Despicable Microsoft policies are responsible. In Win8/10, users are to have as LITTLE control over their computers as possible. Auto Gamma/brightness is part of this policy.

'Smart' desktop drivers 'recognise' your output device, and activate 'optimal' settings that the user is strongly discouraged from changing. Game dev guidelines from Microsoft state that devs must NOT allow ingame gamma/brightness adjustments (nor must they allow sound channel remixing like forcing stereo for headphone use). The DESKTOP settings must be inhereted instead.

So get a desktop app like gapa.exe, and adjust your gamma/brightness before starting your game. When Microsoft bans Win32 apps in Win11 or Win12, you won't be able to even do this!

This Topic is kinda old but for those who want to tweak gamma, brightness and contrast i use the small tool called darkfix. There you can also bind hotkeys to different settings . And you dont need to play in windows mode. I use this tool for almost everything (software/games). It is also very handy for counter-strike. I dont like the brightness settings of my monitor, because either its too bright or too dark. But this tool manages it better. So have fun everybody.
