squall12990
I was just wondering if there where any mods out there that would add fireflies to the nightly atmosphere. I've seen the natural environments mod but that doesn't add them. I'm just curious because something like that sounds kinda cool. Maybe some dragonflies in the swamps too. Marcus Wolfe
Sounds like a cool idea. However, as you will see on my reality mods post, the experts seem to agree that insects could cause major lag. However, i was talking about ants and catipillars, whom i imagine would be harder to program than those butterflies i see. So just fire flies and dragon flies sound like a good idea. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Listen to Heavy Metal and the Grunge Gods will thank you

Cause i know that i have it and there are dragonflys, birds, butterflies etc. No fireflies though

If natural habitats is the one that changes the vegatation then I can't run it. I've tried to but it messes with my FPS for some odd reason. I don't see how fireflies could cause problems. they are just dancing white dots. If I had any idea whatso ever about using the CS then I'd try to do it on my own...but I'm not a programmer yet. Fireflys would just be a change to one of the existing systems used to make other insects fly around. Ants and other crawly stuff could not use that system as they would be fixed to a plane. This is where the problem starts, doing them as some sort of texture overlay wouldn't be so resource dependant, but as ground shaders don't exist, and there aren't many places where the ground is flat enough to have a fairly large overlay, you'd be stuck to either having alot of little ones which end up looking repetative, or rather unnoticable. The alternative is making a small creature, that moves and wanders on its own, not bound to a specific plane, this is where things become hard on resources and you'd run into some major slow down. Something as small as an ant (even a fairly large ant) wouldn't be noticable in game without 30-40 others in a small area, probably would need even more since most people aren't looking at their feet while playing. Your particular desire, as has been explained, just wouldn't work outside of reality. As to the question, I'm fairly sure I've seen fireflys in game, they're just only in certain spots near towns and roads where the devs actually bothered to add the details. I'll have to check around outside of towns now that you mention that. The closest thing I've seen to fireflies are the ones you see in SE...but those aren't close to a actual firefly.
