el_masmalo
Hi, first of all say that this is a great forum, and i been reading it for years. i never posted before because you ever are more experienced than me in modding gamebryo bassed games. but now im pretty desperate. i putted some mods in my fallout. to do that I unpackaged the bsa files ( meshes, sound, textures). i putted then using the FOMM or manually. also i putted in the NVSE, and when i finished i´ve checked all with FNVedit. when I playe the game pressents the clipping hair / big heads issue. the 2 solutions that i´ve seen is change the name of the data/meshes/characters (dont worked) and the packaging again the BSA files. i packaged it ussing the FOMM utility. and they have the same structure than the original ones (i made the fake data folder) also the archive invalidation is made. but still, after all of this, if i try to start the game ussing the BSA files, instead of the folders ones, the game crashes before it shows any logo. what im doing bad? im pretty mad about this, and after long seeking/surfing, i didnt see a fix for this that works to me. lot of thanks in advance and keep making this forum bigger
GrindedStone
I didn't really get what you said. It doesn't matter though. .BSA is okay if it's just the Vanilla .BSA, Normally I won't use any other .BSA Anytime I end up with one, I just unpack it an delete the .BSA So as an example, Dead Money, install it, an you see there are a couple of .BSA that are part of that install. It doesn't always pick up that it needs to load these, so I just unpack the Dead Money .BSA's to the desktop, then move that to my data folder. drag an drop the whole file an, yes to all. Then move or delete the .BSA out of the data folder. Say you use LingsCoffiture it comes with a .BSA, install the mod, then unpack the .BSA to the desktop, drag an drop it, yes to all, an Then move or delete the .BSA out of the data folder. I couldn't get Dead Money to work without doing this, but in Fallout 3 it totally will automaticly pick up on the extra .BSA installed, so I do use those DLC .BSA, for some reason vegas don't always pick up on that it needs to load these extra .BSA, so I just unpack them. The player made .BSA are too small to really matter, an only cause mix an match content, say you have a player made .BSA with the female upperbody texture with a date of 01-01-11 inside this player made .BSA, say that you install a mod that changes the female upperbody texture to blue which has a date of 01-01-08 which is located in the loose folders Data/textures/characters/female/ Archive invalidation is going to invalidate the original in the vanilla .BSA, but it's also going to invalidate the version in loose files, because the one in the player made .BSA is of a later date, thus making that mod you just installed not work. This somewhat is the concept but it's more like this an that texture ends up being a mix matched set, from the messy ness, with unpacked .BSA you only have one set of files an one set of files being invalidated. The Vanilla .BSA, that is the .BSA that get installed when you install the game. I never touch these. If I need something inside one of them, then I'll unpack that file, or unpack a group of files, but I never unpack the whole thing. Also the stuff that I unpack to use in order to create other things is unpacked to a seperate location from my games data folder. That's because it gets messy an projects don't always turn out. So I'm actually allowed to poop all over that projects folder, where if I did stuff in the game folder it might mess up the game. Also you kind of have to have these Vanilla .BSA installed, there's no getting around it. There are just too many files in there. The other .BSA you find from players an DLC are just too small to really make a difference. However the very large size of the vanilla .BSA serve to lower the overall packets you need loaded to play the game.
