A mod where the Protagonist is an NPC and you're just an average wastelander.

Now, just hear me out here, because of course this probably sounds a little crazy. I'd love to hear some feedback and see some discussion about it though.

So, as well all know, not everyone is pleased with the lack of roleplaying that's present in F4. You're pretty much stuck in the role the developers put you in, that of a man/woman looking for their child and having a limited amount of options on how to go about with it. However, the fact that the character is so pre-defined, and voiced no less, leads to an interesting opportunity. Essentially, we could make the protagonist a voiced NPC that carries out it's mission over a pre-determined amount of time, while the player completes whatever side-quests they feel like, and roleplays in whatever position they desire. In addition, there could even be random encounters with the sole survivor on his/her journey. For example, after day 20 in the game, your character may come across the SS talking to a certain detective about finding their child, and so on and so forth. The main quests would automatically be completed as time goes on, and the SS advances his/her own story, leaving you, just one of many trying to survive, struggling to cope with the sudden changes to the Commonwealth.

So yeah, I'm just wondering if this is a good idea or even doable once the GECK comes out. Seriously though, I'd love to see some discussion and ideas tossed around, so if this piques your interest, feel free to leave a comment.

Man, I am playing this game right now. I'm 25 levels in and I heaven't done anything from main quest. Who gives a f*ck about some toddler, seriously.. who thought it was a good idea? There is no emotional connection, the minute it turned out to be about the baby I quit main quest. I don't care, why would I... give me a woman to save...

So yea, I am a Minute Man General, who said you can''t roleplay? :P

It is interesting idea for a mod, but is it really necessary? It is better to put all that work in making complelety new character NPC with story that is actually cool :)

That's basically what I'm taking about. Leave the advancement of the main quest to the the NPC'd SS, and make a completely new, unrelated character that is actually cool.

They did a quest like this for Morrowind. I am sure it wouldn't be extremely hard to make a mod like this after an alternate start mod comes out.

Oh really? Well that's encouraging. The fact that the protag is voiced helps a lot too I'd imagine. We could just use that audio for conversations and the like, no need for writing our own dialogue.

I was thinking of the same thing. The main character is already voiced and would make a good material for follower with main quest. You just have to find the sole survivor in the vault 111.

Who gives a **** about your dad. He was a jerk anyway, leaving you on your own in the wasteland after vault fiasco. The first thing he blurts out after seeing you after years is "I'm very disapointed with your choices."

Bethesda has a knack for bad plot twist involving your family members that you don't care about, ever since Follout 3.

True. It's weird that such expensive production makes such obvious mistakes. No one will care about fake relatives. You need to first learn about characters, hear out their stories, empathize with them... that is the way you create bond, not by just forcing it by saying "here, this is your sister Ann, and this is your child Mike, and you love them, the end. Now care. It is like the basics of story writing. It makes me really sad.

Good thing it is open world and you can do what you want, otherwise it would be pure fail. But...

There are some inconsistencies tough... I started doing main quest today after reaching 28, and stupid stuff happens like talking to Piper like I just met her, while we are already in the romance stage, because quest voice over was recorded with intention that you do it early in the game...
