Multiple sidekicks

Knouen

Recommended Posts

I considered posting this in the comments list for a specific mod, but it may apply to Oblivion in general and relate to all companion/siedkick mods, so I figured I'd best ask here instead.

My character has the Neeshka sidekick, and the Rhiannon priestess sidekick. I installed Wei Chan also, and followed the jounral directions for adding her as another sidekick. However, after speaking with Jauffre and returning to the Imperial City to let her know we can work together, no new dialogue options appeared and she did not sign on as a sidekick.

Is this some conflict in that particular mod? Or is there a limit in Oblivion which applies no matter who the NPC is?

There is no limit I know that. With the Servant of the Dawn mod, I once had three Mythic Dawn Templars and four Mythic Dawn Acolytes following me. And now, as the High Chancellor, I could have the entire Imperial Legion following me along with the entire Mythic Dawn Army AND a large army of daedra. I'm assuming it's a bug with the mod.

Normally, you wouldn't want to have more than 3 people following you around. Any more than that and they often blocking your way when you enter buildings/caves. They also tend to get in the way of battle alot, get hung up on terrain, get stuck behind doors, fall off ledges/bridges into certain death, as such, it's usually best to have only one or two, and have them stay behind in certain situtions (like oblivion gates). As most companion mods lack ways to get around any of these, problems will happen.

I totally agree. I HATE companions. I was simply transporting the soldiers from a the fort where I recruited them to Dagon's Temple to better protect it.

There's nothing "wrong" with companions, they just require a bit more than a follow package to be of any use. Toaster share and recruit, while not dialog based, comes alot closer to pulling this off than most dialog based ones, and even still has some of the same problems just as clumping, getting stuck behind doors, caught on rocks, ect.

I'm not saying there is. I'm just saying that I, personally, hate them. They always get in the way, blow my cover when I sneak, get stuck somewhere, get killed, etc. I just find them more trouble than they're worth especially since I don't need any help while fighting. I do fine on my own.

I've run through the game (main quest + others) a couple of times. Now I'm basically taking my time, doing things I haven't done before. And I figured involving more well-written characters would be fun, so I'm installing heaps of NPCs.

There aren't that many that are well written. Sure, they may have dialogues and maybe even voices, but underneath that they're still the same "follow you everywhere, run off blindly into battle" thing found in lower quality mods. Maybe when all the 1.2 stuff gets cleared up I'll do a companion with decent AI and features.
