NMM - How does it handle directories?

Hey;

I have NMM installed; With fallout 4 i've been manually installing all my texture mods, but now i want to use NMM as recently the 'Download with NMM' has come up on a lot of mods.

The problem that i'm worried about is that people may be putting their mods in incorrect directory formats, thus this would (i assume) make the mod not work?

If say i download a mod, it's a zip, and in the zip it has ZIP>DATA>TEXTURES>(mod contents/subfolders) etc, how does that vary to a mod that only has ZIP>TEXTURES>(mod contents/subfolders) etc,

The reason i ask is i see a lot of mods that have a zip and show Textures, whereas there's many that have Data>Textures

Does anyone know (FOR SURE) if NMM automatically hooks this and i dont need to worry about it?

What's the correct structure from the ZIP, so say i download a mod, what's the first thing i should see in there? Textures folder? or a Data folder? and does NMM sort this out automatically or no?

Thanks.

EDIT:

After testing it seems somehow the layout doesn't matter, and NMM will detect it automatically and make it work. (Provided all the subdirectories are correct)

Pretty neat.
