WildBlueWillow Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Hi everyone, I am hoping it is alright to post this here. I really have no idea where else I might. Long story short, unbeknownst to me, my kitten decided to take a foot bath in my coffee cup while I was out of the room last night and she apparently got coffee into the keyboard on my laptop. My DH wiped up the mess and did not tell me about it until I started swearing up and down about the tilde key not working when I tried to save my game tonight using the console. (I have several characters and I prefer to use the console to save my games individually under the character name .. I am weird!) Anyway, DH fessed up to the kitten fiasco from last night and thought he would fix the issue - he is used to desktops - by prying up the non-functioning tilde key. Yep .. if it wasn't hosed before .. it sure as heck is now! It will not work in any way shape or form .. not in Word, Notepad .. nothing. It is DOA. So the question I put forth to the fine knowledge base here is, is there a way that I can map the function of the tilde key to another key so I can have a functional console or am I going to have to fashion a new keyboard out of dead husband and kitten parts? Any help would be very much appreciated and if there is a solution .. can you explain it to me like I am a moron .. because seriously .. I am SO computer illiterate .. it is a genuine miracle I managed to figure out LOOT TES5Edit, NMM and modding Skyrim in general! (However, I do want it noted that I knew enough that I screamed to try to stop him prying up the tilde key!) Thank you so much for any help!Wil
sLoPpYdOtBiGhOlE Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 (edited) Local op shop, pick up a standard keyboard for next to nix (well the local op shops here all have some pile of used keyboards, what I'm typing with atm).Proper fix would be visit the laptop manufacturer website an look for a service manual (shows the basic of disassembling the laptop. Most cases the keyboard is usually held in by a simple few screws and or clips). Then log on to ebay and type your laptop model and filter using parts, most cases you can find a replacement keyboard in minutes. In the mean time use a key binding program like glovepie or something along those lines.http://glovepie.org/Bind another key as a tilde key. I will try that binding program in the short term and hustle myself out to Ebay and see if I can pick up a replacement keyboard. I have previously replaced a hard drive on a Macbook and RAM on the "broken tilde key" Toshiba, so I am hoping the keyboard won't be terribly intimidating! Thank you again!!
