AmShagar
Hey everybody, its a desperate and frustrated Oblivion gamer who is imploring your help. :( Since too many months, i'm experiencing suden crashes with my EVGA 7800GS 256Mo card, particularly when I play Oblivion. Actually, I can't play more than a few minutes before my screen freezes, leaving me no other option than a reset. Sometimes I see an error message saying that nvxxxdisp.dll has crashed...I've tried many drivers, and many tweaks on them, I've tweaked the oblivion.ini , I've tried to launch the game WITHOUT the ton of great mods I've downloaded from this GREAT SITE :P ,I've reinstalled Oblivion and Windows, the last tweaks I've tried are the tips from "Optimising Oblivion 2.0", but...nothing. My game still crashes, which make me feel it's a hardware problem, even if Oblivion is much more eager to crash than all the other games (Stalker, SupCom, IL2....). Drivers settings are default, I play Oblivion with HDR ON , 1024*768, options set to medium. http://img126.imageshack.us/img126/3710/oblivion1bt1.jpg Here are my specs:Athlon XP3200+1Gig DDR RAM@400MhzMSI KT6-V motherboardMaxtor 120Gig@7200Rpm...and the very graphic card Please feel free to tell me if you are experiencing the same crashes, and if you have any idea of how to solve this problem I will be very thankfull. PS: Please don't tell me "Have you installed the lastest drivers on your graphic card/sound card/motherboard ?", nor "have you defragmented your disk" or "advices" like this, I'm not exactly a newbie  . I just need an advice on whether the origin of bug could be HARDWARE or SOFTWARE...If you need further info on my specs/graphic options/likes and dislikes feel free! PSbis: Sorry if you haven't understood everything, i'm french and I do my best !
Vagrant0
Looks like a videocard issue to me. Might want to try turning off hdr, dstant rendering, and lower your resolution, and see if it improves. One of the .ini tweak guides I found mentioned some of the debugging options that would display how much memory was being used by the game. Can't find it now though. Might want to try that to pinpoint it down. It may be multiple things. What's the speed on the Athlon XP3200+?

Already tried, no improvement in stability. One of the .ini tweak guides I found mentioned some of the debugging options that would display how much memory was being used by the game. What's the speed on the Athlon XP3200+?2.2Ghz My specs are good enough to run it at decent settings, so I guess this is an hardware issue indeed. I've also noticed a weird issue on my system RAM: sometimes when I have to reboot, the memory test on the first screen displays only HALF of the mory I have : I have 2 512MB@400 RAM modules, one Corsair Value @CAS 2.5 and an other noname at CAS 3.0. This issue happens very rarely, but I've tried to reduce the CAS latency Of the CORSAIR to match the other, but I don't think it has changed much overall. Oh and Thanks for your quick answer though! :P

As you're mixing brands, Oblivion may not be liking the combination. With the debug open, you may be able to see how much ram is being used, if it kills the game after the 512 mark, this is probably a good indication. It may not be noticable on other games as they aren't using as much ram as quickly, as Oblivion keeps track of alot of stuff, ram gets used quickly. PSbis: Sorry if you haven't understood everything, i'm french and I do my best ! You might want to try this: http://www.theorica.net/gamexp.htm The main features of the program are: Game XP has been designed to speed up your computer by optimizing system settings in the most efficient way to allow for maximum gaming experience.Makes games to run faster and boosts overall performance of your computer.Optimizes your 3D card performance for maximum gaming experience and much more...No installation or modification needs to be made to your hardware. If system analysis of Game XP match your computer then simply press the "Go to Warp Speed" button. It does not need any DLL or another file(s). It is just a single "EXE" file: GameXP.exeEasy to use interface. No installation necessary. No experience or computer skills necessary! The only other thing is if you loaded and unloaded a bunch of mods (like I did) you might have a mess in your folders. I have a post in here about what I did, but you have to be at a point of discuss to do it. Hope the above helps.Viva - La - France
JDFan
If I had to quess - I would suspect a Power supply issue - The 7800Gs uses quite a bit of power and if you are using one that came with the case it is probably not enough to handle the game - as OB stresses your Video card and HDD and uses the memory and CPU heavily all at the same time which tends to heat the parts up and as the temp rises the power supply output drops (as they age the output drops as well) - If the PSU is barely able to handle the system when this happens it will cause an unstable power supply and you will wind up with a CTD - then it cools down a bit by the time you reboot and the process starts over again !! And since you did not list the PSU you are using in your specs - you are probably not using a high quality one ( just a quess)
