GSmog
My idea is essentially someone has to be making these guns and armor right, and while we can mod stuff we cant take materials and make something ourself. Instead of only being able to find base items like leather armor, pipe rifles and so on and be able to mod it later... so that with the relevant perks you can create them. The point being is essentially since the crafting perks are locked behind level requirements anyway people wouldnt be able to obtain them until after a certain time, and you would be able to make your own armor instead of having to scavenge it off everyone. Aka you could maybe make raider/junk armor with level 1, leather and metal armor with 2, combat and synth armor with 3 and perhaps legendary mods with 4. More importantly, if you had the level +1 you could combine 2 versions of the same armor to make sturdy armor. Thus you could make sturdy raider armor at 2, sturdy leather and metal at 3, and sturdy combat and synth at 4. If you had the level +2 you could make heavy armor, so Heavy Raider at 3, heavy leather and metal at 4, and I suppose you'd need science or something to make heavy combat and synth if you could do it at all. Or who knows, maybe lower all the requirements by 1 and allow you to make raider armor without the perk. The same idea could work for weapons. Tier one being pipe rifles, tier two being hunting rifles, shotguns, and pistols, tier three being combat rifles/shotguns submachine guns and assault rifles, and lastly special/heavy weapons. Laser weapons would take gun nut and science probably. Im thinking for armors that considering the approximate weights of things that you would need two of the same tier armor items to craft the next higher up one. So two leather armor chests to make a sturdy, and two sturdys to make a heavy. Since there doesnt seem to be heavy equivalents of normal guns this doesn't so much seem to apply to them however. Anyway we'd just need to decide how much the basic armor would cost to make, and for that Id suggest just using the first basic upgrade components of a certain item. For armor its easy, for instance boiled leather for a leather chest piece costs 2 adhesive, 4 cloth, and 6 leather, so why not use the same materials to make a default leather chest piece. Of course this may not always work, but its an idea in progress. For guns it gets a bit more complicated though not too bad, youd have to find the cost of all the default parts. Lets use pipe guns. It takes 1 gear, 2 oil, 1 screw and 2 steel to make a standard receiver. 1 screw, 1 adhesive and 2 steel to make a standard short barrel. 1 screw and 1 steel to make a standard grip. 1 spring and 1 steel to make a standard magazine. And lastly 1 adhesive and 1 steel to make standard sights. So to make a default pipe gun you'd need 1 gear, 2 oil, 3 screws, 7 steel, 2 adhesive, 1 spring. So, ideas? Suggestions? Like or dislike the concept? If no one else is interested in doing it I probably will myself once we get the tools to do so.
