Settlers won't equip armor, equipping weapons is a hassle

Settlers will not equip any armor I give them. In order for me to give them a weapon. I have to give them a weapon while they still have the default weapon in their inventory, add 20+ rounds for the gun and then remove their gun. I can't just remove their gun and then give them a new one. Is there a mod that allows me to equip them with armor and weapons more easily?

Settlers will equip armor that you give them if you select it after it's in their inventory, then use the T key or its Equip equivalent on consoles. See http://twinfinite.net/2015/11/fallout-4-how-to-equip-companions-and-settlers/

 

I can't speak for guns - I usually just give mine better pipe weapons to replace the ones they have, and they equip them after I take away their default one.

Can remove their gun and replace it with any weapon. As long as they have 1 ammo of that type they will use that weapon and not have any ammo problem. Will still need to tell them to equip it (t key) though.
