Dots under user name?

I just noticed everyone has dots under their user name - what do they mean/represent? There isn't the same number of dots for all users, which is why I'm curious.

Going by the IP.Board documentation these appear to be called "Pips" and they simply represent your member rank, that is in direct relation to the number of posts you made:
