Create a tool in build mode that allows you to merge objetcs to reduce lag

Say you installed a mod that removes the size limit on your settlement. After a lot of building, the game gets so laggy and you computer crashes if there's too much.

But what if there was some kind of tool that allowed you to merge/unmerge objects together such as walls and floors. I think the game treating them as one object could drastically reduce lag and allow you to build massive fortresses.
