EpiceneBlue
So one of the things that really irritates me about Fallout 4 is that it IMMEDIATELY pushes you into the path to go to Concord to help the settlers (via Codsworth), and then forces Mama Murphy to give you the "hint" to go to Diamond City to look for Shaun (with that then being pushed on you as a quest). Which pretty much ends up in you dying a million times if you are trying to RP trying to get to your son by following what happens in game. As you get pushed to the next "hint" and quest, and the next and the next, without it accounting for your game inexperience, especially on difficult levels. The whole experience of FO4 would be SO much better if you literally had to wander around the world until you finally ended up in Diamond City, and only THERE did you get pushed onto the path of locating Shaun. (Thus building up experience and gear while gradually looking for Shaun.) Perhaps Mama Murphy's "destiny" dialogue with the Diamond City quest push could be stopped from happening in Concord, instead requiring you to speak to her after she goes to Sanctuary. So thus you could just avoid talking to her until you wanted to take that path. Even better, if you it would only be an option to get the "destiny" speech and Diamond City quest push after hitting a certain level or something. Like she had a sudden vision of your destiny and that kicks off her dialogue options. So you could do the other stuff with her without that triggering until later. In Skyrim, you can sort of ignore the main quests RP wise by not engaging in certain dialogue options, so as not to break immersion by ignoring what has been said and the quests added to your journal. (Nah, I don't want to go join the Stormcloaks or the Imperials just yet but I'll think about it, and ditching the Jarl after reporting the dragon, but before he gives you a prize and starts in on the dialogue for the Bleak Falls Barrow Quest.) Viola, you are free and clear to wander and RP the world until you decide to take up the main quests. In F04, that is impossible. Once your character is told they should look in Diamond City for their son, no way would they not immediately run as fast as possible to go there. Which sucks. farrago
while i agree that mama murphy is COMPLETELY off theme for fallout and would be best if removed from the game entirely, a little direction at the start of the game saying to go to diamond city isnt really that awful. It's not hard to imagine someone being in this position and being given advice to check at the largest center of civilization around for help
jasonorme666
I totally agree with what you are saying, I didn't mind Codsworth pointing me in the direction of Concord, but to then be ambushed by the minutemen and forced to go on a rescue mission for people who I don't even know THAT early in the game.Mama Murphy I didn't mind so much, but I think like you suggested, some sort of level requirements for each "clue". I'm very OCD about my gaming RP, if you can imagine, lol.
