Ebony Armor?

You can only do the quest if you're lvel 20+, but you can find Umbra in the dungeon at any time. If you have been to the dungeon before, and were under level 15, the armor will have orcish stats. If you are over level 15 it has the ebony stats.

I had some help from the Imperial City Guards to take Umbra out when I was around 3rd level. I'm wearing her gear now. Will the stats change when I hit 15th, or will it remain 'orcish'?

They will remain 'orcish'. Maybe Quest Award Leveling will update them, I don't know.

Umbra? I remember him from Morrowind: took some killing, but had a wonderful sword I carried for a very long time...

I had the 'mask of C. Vile' as well: was my main helmet, used it more than the Oryn Bearclaw, I think.

Any hints where to find them, or how to trigger the quests?

Oh, as to Ebony: I think I was the first of it around levle 15. At about 18, I'm not sure I've stumbled accross a helmet or bow yet, but I have everything else.

Lots of Marauders in the caves in the immeadiate area around the Imperail city. You can definetly tell them from the bandits by teh quality of their gear, though the bandits in my game are packing a lot of glass weapons these days.

In Oblivion, Umbra is a female nord. Ironically, you can only get the Mask of Clavicus Vile by giving up Umbra...

The helmet of Oryn Bearclaw is obtained by finishing the fighters guild quest line.

Naturally you'd mark Umbra as a Bosmer, you Fargoth Worshipper. :P (She is a Bosmer, joke aside)

From what I've seen in MW and OB, people who are called Umbra, basically personify themselves with the blade. Or is it the other way around?

Meh, nvm...although when I walked up to her a very unpleasant memory kicked in...remember that Bosmer at the Temple area in Mournhold? He also wore Ebony. Ergo: Bosmer + Ebony Set = severe mental distress. Especially at lower lvls.

Actually, she's a Bosmer.

It's so hard to tell them apart sometimes...especially imperials, nords, and bretons...(it doesn't help that they all sound the same)

To jump in on this (waaaayyyy late) ...

You are guaranteed to find a Marauder Lord in the bottom level of Fort Homestead. Another guaranteed place to look is to get the quest from Maeva the Buxom (love that name!) at Whitmond Farm - both Bjalfi the Contemptable (your target in the quest) and the Marauder Lord he pals around with should have leveled armor.

Umbra had a gender reassignment spell cast on him/her, as she was a ‘he’ last game *snickers*

Get the Menzor Razor’s plug-in (or whatever it’s called). At lv.10 I found steel and dwemer (dwarvish) armor all abound and near lv.20, I found nothing but Ebony and Decric armor.

It also nets a nifty dagger (which I never really use), but I had to make eight separate trips to loot out the place (that and the fact that it has four large ‘caverns’, so it takes a long time to tread through it over and over again to loot).
