Submachine guns that don't suck

There are two recurring themes in Fallout: wild western, and gangster noir. If you're gonna do gangster noir, you should at least have a decent tommy gun. Unfortunately that's not the case with Fallout 4. These peashooters aren't even half as useful as the combat rifle which uses the same ammo. It's almost disgraceful. I ask someone with the know how to boost the submachine gun's damage to a reasonable count. I would suggest somewhere like 24 dmg per shot. Thanks for reading~

Never mind boosting the damage. If you get Spray n Pray and a couple ranks in Commando, you're set for damage. I can kill a deathclaw in less than 50 rounds, which is like 3 seconds of sustained fire with Spray n Pray. I'm not even threatened by deathclaws anymore

What the Thompson/ submachinegun needs is the old M1928 vertical foregrip. It just doesn't feel the same holding the front with a flat hand for hipfire. You gotta' have the vert foregrip for true tommy gun action, just like all the old film noir scenes. The horizontal forestock is suck a tense position. With the veritcal foregrip, the hold was so much more casual, and cool, like "I don't even have to aim--that's how dead you are. So long, punk".

Two things.

One. Okay, so Spray N' Pray is in fact a pretty damn nice weapon. But it's ONLY that gun, and ONLY because of that legendary effect. All other submachine guns are pretty awful, including any that you pick up in between the time it takes for you to actually get your hands on the SNP. I want ALL the submachine guns to feel useful, because I like giving them to my settlers and companions. The good news is that there are already mods that address this topic and fix the issue, and furthermore the Creation Kit is released. Which means I can make my own variation on it.

Two. You are 111% correct that the submachine gun needs that vertical grip. It does NOT feel complete without it, especially for the gangster noir feeling that this game attempts with it. I'm desperately hoping that someone makes a new model for it soon.

Yeah, that's true: regular Thompsons ARE pretty underwhelming if Commando perks aren't maxed out. I guess I never really got stuck with one for too long, since I made it my mission to find Spray N Pray.

I know, right? No one ever made one for the Tommy Gun in New Vegas either, and people made M4s with vert grips...

Me, I don't know coding or 3d modelling. Not in my skillset, or I'd have tried to do it myself by now. I'd be more useful doing voicework for a mod rather than coding and design.

I remember several mod "attempts" to implement an old school tommy gun with a vertical grip in NV. But none of them were great as the characters would still hold it by the bottom of the weapon. That's another thing that will have to be dealt with if a decent model featuring a vertical grip is made, making proper animations for the weapon so it doesn't end up looking silly. At the moment, I'm not aware of any weapons in game that already exist with a vertical grip or similar animation to using one.

Closest is the Fatman. Unlike in F:3/ NV, it has a 2 handed grip with the front being a vertical foregrip. Thing is, if someone adapted the animation, they'd have to scale the Thompson down so it could be held shouldered, instead of at the hip, as well as adapting the hold to fit actual firing and reloading. Then I guess you'd have the vertical foregrip, but instead of hipfire, it would be aimed with a vertical foregrip.
