David Brasher
I am almost completely ignorant of how to use NifSkope. The mods I make don't usually require its use. I have done a ton of reskinning with Nifskope but that is about all. I have horrible problems with the Nifskope tutorials and documentation. It is sort of like they assume everyone is a graphics design professional and so they don't tell you all the beginning information. It is sort of like starting school in sixth grade and never going to kindergarten. (Another problem with the documentation is that they want you to learn everything in the whole world. Learn every possible function, 80% of which you will never get to use in your particular field. It is set up like sitting down and reading all 26 volumes of the encyclopedia rather than looking up one entry in a dictionary to see what a word means and then getting back to work.) So what I want to know is how you move numbered entries up and down on the list, because it appears that things have to be in a certain order and that certain things have to be in subdirectories of other certain things. How do you manage indentation and change the structure of the tree? Edited April 10, 2011 by David Brasher
Genzel
To move nodes up or down: right click on the node->block->move up/move down (you can also use ctrl+up or ctrl+down). Blocks will be indented if they are properties of another node. I also find NifSkope very confusing, but very little modding requires any extensive knowledge of it. The most I have really had to do is add a node to render faces as double sided. Almost all of the nifskope work is already done for you when you export a new model or something. Hopefully this helps a little bit.
fore
David, you don't want to manage indentation and tree structure, unless you do something like change a skeleton. As Genzel said, the structure is pre-defined by the type of object you are working on. What you can only do (besides changing values) is add nodes at certain points, or delete them. I never thought that changing the order of nodes is important, but you need to know how to move nodes up in order to compactify a list when you have removed some nodes. In my Wiki article there is a pictured example of how to add nodes (of bone animations) to a list.
