fencerdjs
I've got a strange problem, and since I have no idea how to access the inner workings of the game, I need some help. I'm trying to do the thief's guild quests, and I'm on (I believe) the final quest, but ... it won't start. I've got over 30,000 gold fenced (it says it needs 3,000) to start. I've waited over 2 weeks game time, and still... nothing. The quest is "Independent Thievery", and at the moment, it's still telling me that I need to fence 3,000 gold to fathis ules or other guild fences to get the attention of the grey fox. I believe it should have moved on to something like "I have fenced over 3,000 gold, and should watch for a messenger from the gray fox" or something of the sort. Is there some console command that I can use to proceed to the next quest, or can I simply not finish this quest?
Malchik
Unless you have mods the final TG quest requires 1000 gold fenced. If you are using a mod it can cause conflict. You are correct that it should have moved on to the message you say. See if it works with the mod swiched off. If necessary you can advance the quest via the console using the setstage command. The final quest is TG11 and the stage you want is 1 or 10. (Unless affected in some way by the mod.) Setstage TG11 1 I think is the command but no doubt others will correct me if I am wrong. fencerdjs
Thanks Malchik! I've been going through my mods, and I can't find any that appear to have caused it. I've disabled all of them, and still the quest does not continue. Right now, I'm wondering - when does the game check to see if the requirements for the quest have been completed? Do I need to wait a while after disabling mods, etc? Should I sell some more stolen loot to a fence (to make my amount fenced go up, and hopefully cause a re-check)? what can I do to fix this, does anyone have any suggestions of where to start? I'll try that command and let you know what happens. The final quest is TG11 and the stage you want is 1 or 10. (Unless affected in some way by the mod.) Setstage TG11 1 I think is the command but no doubt others will correct me if I am wrong. Well... I don't know if any of my mods affect the quest, but it definitely says 3000. I tried using setstage tg11 1, and 10, but I got an error (script syswindowcompileandrun line 1: item 'tg11' not found for parameter Quest. compiled script not saved!) Do any of the official plugins modify this? I've got all of them, I'm kind of wondering if the Thieves' Den plugin mods it. I used to use the Thieves' Arsenal mod as well, but no longer do. EDIT: Merged your posts. Please edit rather than double post, thanks. - Switch
Malchik
I forgot to add the name of the quest in the command, sorry. SetStage TG11Heist 01 or 10.
fencerdjs
SetStage TG11Heist 01 or 10.Thanks, Malchik. Using 'SetStage TG11Heist 10' started the final quest. Now, however, I've got the quest 'Independent Thievery' left in my quest log, as it hasn't changed at all. How did you find that command? Is there a table online of commands, quests, etc, or did you have to plow through some files? Thanks, either way. EDIT: well, I tried doing the quest "The Greatest Heist" that came up after that command, but there are problems, namely that while the Gray Fox is where he's supposed to be, he won't talk to me about the quest, and he has a key that I need to do the quest (I think). It would seem that I need to complete or progress the Independent Thievery quest first.

Thieves guild quests start TG. Find the one you want and then look under quest stages. If the problem is independent thievery it has a different identifier but still beginning TG (not followed with a number). Check to find what you need and use SetStage again. I believe that the command that I need to use is "Setstage TGStolenGoods 115", but I'm not sure. I can't tell if that will start TG10Heist or not, but I'm going to try it and see what happens. Edit:While that did continue the quest, it did not cause Amusei to come and give me the message from the Grey Fox. I tried Setstage TGStolenGoods 115 then SetStage TG11Heist 10, but I got the same problems as before. I've got a marker on my map pointing (I think) to the item I'm trying to steal, but I need a key for the sewers of the palace, which I don't have, and I can't talk to the Grey Fox about the quest. From what I can tell, the problem seems to be that I usually sold my stuff to the fence in the DLCThievesDen plugin, which (as far as I can tell) doesn't count towards the amount stolen for the thieves' guild quests. again, I'm not sure, since I've never even worked with the CS before today, but that's what it looks like to me. Does anyone have any ideas how to force Amusei to start TG11Heist?
Malchik
I don't know about the Dunbarrow Cove fence but you got all the other missions so I can't see why that would be a problem. If it is, try fencing stuff to one of the others and see if that changes anything. If SetStage 10 is not working, go to the next one. Then the Grey Fox should have given you the quest. However you will need the two items you previously stole for him (arrow of extrication and boots of Springheeled Jack) and they may not be added. This is the trouble with using the console. TGStolenoods 115 will say you are ready for the next quest. You won't get it if the previous quests are not recognised as complete but I assume that is not the issue. Sometimes it takes a while for Amusei to appear. If nothing happens try TG11Heist 01. This I believe is the game trigger for Amusei to deliver the note. However if you SetStage to 10 you should be able to meet the Grey Fox in Othrelos's house. Is he there? Does he talk about the quest at all? If not there may be another trigger needed somewhere. I'm no expert, I'm afraid.

You may not be an expert, Malchik, but I appreciate the help all the same.- I did try TG11Heist 01, but that gave me nothing, as Amusei didn't deliver the note.- When I changed it to TG11Heist 10, I could meet the Gray Fox, but he wouldn't talk to me about the quest. My thought is that there's a script of some sort that isn't being triggered. Malchik
Well TGStolenGoods 120 is a possibility. That stops the Independent Thievery quest. Maybe it's needed before the next one will start? You can use the console command sqt to view the stage you are at. Set the quest Independent Thievery as your active quest first and then let me know what it says. I am on a steep learning curve here. If anyone else out there can give more info, please feel free!
