Edit: Offical error message { Error: unable to create output file "C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data\data\ }

Try a different program, winzip sucks. I think winrar is vista compatable (or atleast as well as it could be) and it can be used even after the trial period. I use it for all my archiving purposes, have yet to come across anything that wasn't wrong with the actual zip file.

As for vista itself, write an e-mail to microsoft stating as a long term user and purchaser of their products, unhappy about how poorly vista works. And how you've already mentioned everywhere you can how the product fails to deliver and how people should stick with XP or look into another OS until they fix their problem. Sure, they're likely to just throw out the e-mail, but if they get a few thousand of them a day from alot of people, they might start to care as you'd be demonstrating a loss of consumer loyalty... which means less money for them.

Is there a way to unbungle this mess ive made? In trying to save time, I exported everything to the data folder... now the mystic elf race I DLed is not there.. and all characters are eyeless...

Vista protects files from being overwritten if they are not set with you as owner. The solution is not to overwrite items but to first rename the original items so you don't have to overwrite. Another solution is turning the security off for this kind of thing.
