mike130
I am running Oblivion with these specs: Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo T7200 (2.00 gHz)1 GB DDR2 PC2-5300 (Corsair)Nvidia 7600 Go 256 MB100 GB 5400 rpm It runs alright, but the lag in some parts stops me from fighting effectively. I am running a lot of mods (easily 30+ esp's and 5 OMOD's, plus other textures, etc.), and I find sometimes looking at the ground doesn't help. More often than not, it lags a lot on the outside cells and runs perfectly smooth on inside cells (including cities). How much would 1 extra GB of RAM help in increasing overall performance? Is Oblivion one of those games that can use more than 1 GB of RAM? Also, on a similar topic, do you recommend using 256 MB VRAM texture packages (specifically Qarl's v.2) if my GPU only has a 128-bit memory bus? Could I gain performance by using 128 MB textures? Thanks a lot
Vagrant0
http://www.atomicmpc.com.au/article.asp?SC...D=36546&p=6I think one of the debugging settings will tell you how much memory you're using, If you're thinking of getting another 1gb stick, you should probably look for the same model as you have installed, or atleast one with the same timings and latency. I'm using 2gb ram right now, and don't think I've had many problems with it. Granted I don't have as many large or even medium sized mods as most people. But have noticed some improvement over the 512 I had in before, and the 1gb I borrowed for a brief moment of time. Most noticibly were various loading times, if you're noticing real pauses as you run around the wilderness, going to 2gb might help, but as this can also be related to alot of other things (especially since 1.2) it might not solve anything. It may however give your PC a little longer lifetime before you're looking at something new. If you have the space, money, and the will to install it, more ram is usually a good decision even when you aren't having problems. Just make sure you buy the right stuff or you'll really be kicking yourself.
calvorin
I had a similar issue. The game was playable. But choppy in the wilderness, even with the distance setting way down. I added another gig and now it runs perfectly, even with all the graphic settings maxed.
BigT17
More ram helped my computer to play games a lot smoother. I think that it is a good idea to upgrade from 1 gig to 2.

Voices
What settings do you run the game at? More RAM always helps with loading screen and pretty much everything. I'm assuming your mother board has 4 slots in it. Just make sure your second stick is the same as your first stick. It would work without it, but you will see much more improvement if it the same kind. The second part of your system I would recommend is get at least a 7200rmp drive, 3/gbs SATA would be preferred, but that will help. I recently built a new computer so I can't say what the exact difference is, but part of the new box including going from 768 to 2gb and loading screens in every game have disappeared.
