Weapon Mod Attachment on the Go

I'm sure I can't be the only one who finds it very frustrating to think that my character, despite being able to repair power armour with dinner trays, cannot take the scope off of his weapon without a dedicated workshop.

 

Now obviously without the GECK (and probably a script extender) I don't expect a full unique UI with support for certain mods being attachable in the field and some not, but I was wondering if it would be possible to have an item or some such activate the weapon modding menu but effectively stop the player from being able to craft new components through it? This would be potentially kinda OP-ish since I'm not sure you could switch out the receiver of a gun quite as easily in the field but it'd be nice to be able to attach/remove scopes and silencers and stuff and this seems like a plausible middle ground at this point.

 

Also just as a side request, it'd be really neat if I could just press a button and be in command of my follower rather than having to look at them and press use.
